“I didn’t know the commander of the King’s Guard would be joining us for breakfast today.” I said, sounding like I intended nothing.
“I’m here to protect the king.” Gavin said with a forceful tone.
“From what?” I asked lightly, snapping my fingers and a maid quickly attended to me, pouring tea into my cup.
I was really getting used to living this palace life.
Gavin didn’t answer my question but with that scrutinizing look on his face, he might have as well just said my name, that he was protecting the king from me.
After our dishes were set, Hayden instructed the servants to leave. He even told Jake to go as well. Which the youth reluctantly did after a few back and forths.
