Ryan smiled slightly as his companion fell asleep on their way, lulled by the rhythm of raindrops and by her emotional upheaval. He took the time to think. His proposal came out of the blue, the thought came when he saw how distraught Raina was. The girl was only 17, 4 years his junior, it made the protective instinct reared up the first time he saw her at high school. She had skipped a year and was a first year who got bullied because she was younger than the other first years. She was crying behind the back shelf in the library when he happened to passed by in search of another management book. He comforted her then, and introduced her to Darrell's younger sister who was in the same class with her but never interacted, and included her to his group of friends eventhough all of them were third years.
If he thought back, Raina started to have friends after she was seen in their group. He grinned, she was such a shy little thing then, then frowned as he thought that she was taken advantage of because Darrell, James and him graduated the year after. Sighing, his eyes lit up as Prescott's came to view.
"Raina, we're here." He woke her up gently. The girl yawned cutely. "Come on, I'll take you to my suite. You can rest there while I had the meeting, then we'll go to the OBGYN. My sister Kate contacted her for us." Kate sent him the message with Dr. Santi's contacts and said they were expected at Siloam by 7. "Oh, okay" Raina said drowsily. "If you're hungry, call the room service, or ask the concierge to buy get what you wanted. I'll leave a message with them for you."
He opened the door for her and led her to the penthouse and to a room in his suite. "Raina, someone will come to deliver the luggages. Can you let them in? You can ask her to unpack if you wanted. Just show them where to put your things. I'll unpack on my own later." She nodded sleepily. "I'll go to the office now. It's at the 34th floor, RDJ Investment and Management, if you need me. Just ask my secretary to let you into my office. I'll tell Arko that you're expected." He patted her head, gave her a copy of his key, and turned back to the elevator.
The meeting ran very smoothly. The three of them did have the same vision, and had actually wanted that expansion for some time. There's also a hotel that came up for sale in Bali that Darrell heard. They were rather excited because the mall and the hotel were really prospective. "Sir" Arko knocked and peeked in. "Ms.Raina is in your office. " Ryan looked at his watch and almost cursed. "Damn, it's 6.30. Sorry guys, I have to go. " Darrell and James looked at each other "Raina, our little Raina? " Ryan nodded as he packed his laptop and papers. "Yeah, we're at the same situation, so I brought her with me. So, see you in two weeks? " Darrell is going to Jakarta to start finding tenants while he is flying to Jogja after they finalise the sale to complete the payment, then to Bali for their newest hotel.
Raina looked at him blankly when he entered his office. " How are you? Have you had dinner? " She shook her head. "Mmm… I don't really want to eat. Not hungry." She looked down again. "Hey." He crouched in front of her. "Everything will be okay. Okay?" She looked at him and nodded. Ryan sighed and put his laptop and papers down to his table "we're going to the doctor first, then we go for dinner, alright. Think of the baby." He picked his bag up and offered her his hand. "Let's go"
James and Darrell were outside of their offices, done for the day. "Raina! What a surprise. How are you?" Raina forced a smile. "I'll be okay" She looked at him uncertainly, and Ryan gave her an encouraging smile. "That's right. You'll be okay. You have us. James, Darrell, we're going to be late." He pulled her with an arm slung around her waist and led her out.
Dr. Santi was nice and understanding. Raina was registered to her care and the doctor kindly answered their questions. Ryan was holding her shaking hand the whole time and asked some question like an expecting father. "Ah, that's right. Is it safe for Raina to be in an airplane?" The doctor smiled "up to six months should be okay as long as Raina kept healthy. She's young so it should be okay. But I'd still advise you to wait until she reached twelve weeks just in case." Raina flinched as the doctor narrowed her eyes at him. "You have to take care of her now. It's good that you take responsibility. " Raina looked down, then said steely. "Yes, it's good that Ryan wanted to take care of me. My baby's father wanted me to abort the baby instead. " The doctor colored "oh, I'm so sorry. I thought… " "Sorry Ryan, I think I don't want to be in Dr. Santi's care if she can't respect you" Ryan smiled in amusement. Raina had been listless all day, but one disparaging word against him, she came alive.
"Fine by me. But Dr. Santi is recommended by my sister, Kate. So I'm sure she is the best. I don't mind. " The doctor nodded. "Yes, I'm sorry. I'm not normally so judgemental, but my friend Kate would be disappointed if her brother impregnated a minor and had to go out of town to cover it from his family. But I'm glad that that isn't the case. So I will schedule you for an usg tomorrow morning, and here's the list of books and food to avoid. " She handed them the list. "I would very much like to care for you during the pregnancy, but it's your decision. If you wanted to change doctor, I will recommend my colleague."
Raina looked at Ryan who nodded to her in encouragement. "Okay, I want you to care for me, but please don't blame Ryan anymore." Ryan patted her head fondly as Dr. Santi smiled at them. "You're a great man, Ryan. Your family would be proud." She shook their hands and let them out of her office. They scheduled the usg, then went to the mall for dinner so that they can buy the books.
