Chapter 2

Dawn had arrived, and the sun was starting to peek out from the eastern horizon. The chirping of birds roused Elena, and as she moved, she caught whiffs of the wet soil, damp with dew. A groan escaped her, as her entire body hurt, her head throbbed, and her lips turned blue from getting drenched in the rain and passing out from the chilly winds of the night. Elena opened her eyes, still feeling disoriented as she gazed up at the light blue sky that would soon turn white. She looked around, only to find herself surrounded by trees and the empty road. “Aaaahhh!” Elena got up in surprise, letting out a loud scream as she touched her aching head. Despite feeling extremely weak, Elena pushed herself to stand up, forcing her exhausted body to keep going. "How did I even end up here?" she muttered, trying to recall what had happened to her. However, all she could remember was her conversation with Alex the previous night. Her heart ached, and she wanted to cry, but she lacked the energy even to open her eyes entirely. "I need to go back. Mom is going to be buried today!" Elena walked, stumbling around, and praying for someone to come and help her. A moment later, she saw a car on the roadside and jumped up, waving her arms for help. As the car approached her, her vision started to spin, and her legs trembled, unable to bear her own weight. Seconds later, she collapsed on the street, and the driver rushed to her aid. The man looked charming with a black formal suit and had black-rimmed glasses that sat perfectly on his pronounced nose. "I didn't hit her, but she fell. Is she pretending to be hurt to get some money out of me?" the man grumbled upon seeing Elena lying on the floor. However, his demeanor changed as he inspected Elena, seeing how poorly she was dressed and how pale her face had turned. He knelt beside her, checking her pulse. "She’s cold!" he muttered, then he put one of his hand on Elena’s back and the other in the girl’s leg. He picked her up and put her on the hood of the car. The man was Troy Pattinson, a renowned real estate businessman, the owner of Pattinson Elite, whose company was in fierce competition with Alex's Zeus Group. Troy was famous for being a handsome man with piercing blue eyes, known for his aristocratic heritage and scalding critiques of the American government. Raised in a family of lawyers, Troy had initially wanted to follow in his parents' footsteps. However, as he grew older, he realized that being a lawyer did not suit his impatient and quick-tempered personality. This morning, Troy had an important schedule to attend, but fate led him to this stranded girl. Troy put Elena's body in the sun to keep her warm, but the girl didn't open her eyes. "Should I take her to the hospital?" Troy asked himself, he raised his left hand to look at the branded watch on his wrist. Honestly, he didn't have much time but his conscience moved him to help Elena. "I'll take care of you first, blonde girl!" Troy got Elena into the car and laid her on the back seat, he turned around to head back to the city center then took Elena to the hospital. When they arrived at the hospital, the doctors treated Elena immediately and changed her clothes into some appropriate wear. As they attempted to warm her up, Elena regained consciousness, looking bewildered. "Where am I?" she asked, seeing the unfamiliar environment around her, as she had seen the street before, and now she saw the white walls of the hospital. The doctor, dressed in a white coat, approached her. "Miss, you're awake? How are you feeling now? Are you still feeling cold and unwell?" "I feel better than before, but may I know why I am here, Doc?" Elena asked, realizing she was in a hospital room after spotting the doctor at her side. "Mr. Pattinson brought you here. He found you unconscious on the street, and it seems you're pregnant too. Your baby survived, thanks to Troy's timely intervention." The doctor explained, causing Elena to look shocked. "B-baby?” Elena felt something was wrong with her hearing. "Yes, you are pregnant, your womb is only two weeks old so it is still very vulnerable. But, eventhough your fetus might be so weak now, if you consume a lot of nutritious food and get enough rest, the situation will get better. And one more thing, don't think too much. A pregnant women can't be stressed!" the doctor explained well, but Elena was just silent, still not expecting her current situation. "Then you'll have to excuse me." the man in the white coat waltzed out of the room, leaving Elena alone. "I'm pregnant? But how come?" She couldn't recall ever having any s****l encounters with anyone, but something must have happened for her to end up with a pregnancy. She wracked her brain for the last thing she could remember, and all she remembered was the dinner with Alex, some drinking, then waking up in this ordeal. Did she and Alex hook up that night? Elena didn't remember doing it with Alex and he didn't say anything either. But who else had touched her besides Alex? The last three months she had only been with Alex and now she was only two weeks pregnant. As Elena kept pondering, Troy arrived with some fruits and a glass of milk, which he placed on the nightstand beside her bed. "Are you Mr. Troy?" Elena asked shyly. "Yes. May I know who you are?" "I am Elena Carradine, thank you so much for helping me!" Elena said respectfully as it seemed that Troy was not a random person. "The doctor told me that you're pregnant, so tell me where you live or just give me your husband's number, I'll call him!" said Troy as he pulled out a cell phone from his pocket. "I-I'm not married," Elena said while biting her lower lip, she was at a loss as to what to explain to Troy. "Then whose child are you carrying?" Troy frowned, he knew pregnancy without marriage was very common here. But strangely enough he would still be surprised if a woman got pregnant without having a husband. Shyly, Elena started to share everything with him, detailing her backstory, her relationship with Alex, and what happened last night. As she had nowhere to turn and no one to turn to, for Elena, at least sharing her story to Troy would ease the burden on her heart. Troy also did the same. He told Elena who he was. Finally, Elena knew that the man was the enemy Alex had often told her about. Troy listened attentively, and as he did, the anger swelled inside him. "He got two women pregnant at the same time? That bastard deserves to die!" he fumed, his jaw clenched, and his eyes flashing with fury. "Besides his dirty business tactics, he also plays women like toys! Should I kill him?" Troy's fist was now tightly balled up, with veins popping up in his neck. "We only had a relationship on paper. I was paid to be his girlfriend and help him get the biggest share of the Franklin family. This pregnancy was accidental, Alex and I were drunk that night." Elena tried to give him an understanding as she felt unacceptable when Troy said bad things about Alex even though the man had hurt her deeply. "Okay, now let’s get to the point. Do you want to keep the baby or abort it?" Troy asked, had no idea why he became so emotional.
