Chapter Thirteen

Nessa was bothered. She has seen the way Alec had concentrated on Amber and the alarm bells in her head were ringing. She had seen and felt what type of man Alec was and she wasn't ready to lose him to anyone, not even when the person was his mate. She could see as Amber was walking away with her friend and her friend's mate and her eyes narrowed into slits as she watched her carefully. She tried to find a quality that described her and made her fit to become Luna but she found none in Amber. Looking down at herself, she adjusted her body and wondered why she couldn't be a mate to the Alpha beside her. Ever since she had been seeing mates experience the mate bond, she had never heard of where a woman would have three mates. It baffled her so much and she decided to ask her partner why it was so. She had heard all about how the three Alphas had been mated to Amber the previous day from her friends. She had refused to go to the ceremony because she had been adamant about not finding a mate. Deep in her heart, she never wanted a mate. All she hoped and prayed for was that she would never get a mate and so would Alec also. If both of them never met their mates, it would be easier for them to come together and start having children. That waya she was going to have him all to herself. She never expected fate to have a different plan. Now, all of her dreams had been shattered. She looked around at the spacious apartment Alec had and couldn't bear the thought of leaving the place to another person. "Erm..Alec, why do you have to share mate with your brothers? Why can't you have a different mate?" She asked slyly like she was curious. She needed to know his answer in order to plan her attack. She wouldn't just rush into the battle like a headless chicken. "I can't have a different mate from my brothers. We all have to share a mate." Alec replied nonchalantly. He didn't see any reason to be suspicious of her question since he himself had also been confused about it when he was a child. "Why?" Nessa asked after a brief pause. There can't be smoke without fire. Something must have caused it or there must be a reason for this. Her father would always tell her that things don't happen suddenly, there must always be something to have triggered it either in the past, present or future. "There's a simple reason for it. The reason for it is because my brothers and I developed from the same embryo while our mother was pregnant with us. We were fertilised by a single sperm. That's the reason why we look identical and could only be identified by our names." Alex tried his best to explain to her. "But still, that doesn't automatically make you to share a mate. A single egg divided into three parts? Then each of you can have your own mates. She tried to reason with him even when she was confused about the whole theory herself. Alex snapped up his head and looked at her through narrow eyes. He had asked the same question himself as a kid. It had been on the day their father had called them together after Zane and Roman had huge disagreement on who was to become alpha after their father. The day had begun like every other day and they had all gone to school. While at school, Roman and one of the other boys had gone into a classroom and the students there had greeted him as Alpha. Feeling elated, he had walked on air and went in search of his brothers. He was able to find only Alec and he had been elated as he told him that he was going to be the new Alpha. While he was busy displaying how he was going to choose his beta and Gamma, Zane walked in on the scene followed by a group of students who were also calling him Alpha. Both of them had been too shocked to realise what was happening. Roman had immediately screamed that Zane was an usurper who was trying to steal his title from him. Alec, knowing the possessive nature of werewolves instantly had alarm bells ringing in his head. He quickly dashed forward and got between them as the tension heightened. While he was trying to calm down his brothers who were getting ready to fight on the side, several students began to join each side and soon, their supporters were shouting at each other. This had boosted the morale of the warring brothers and within the twinkling of an eye, they were in each other's grasp, each one of them fighting to be superior. Alec, who was the only one left, had immediately begun to disperse their followers. It took the principal's intervention before Zane and Roman stopped fighting. They were both taken to the principal's office and the Alpha, who was their father, was out of town for a meeting. Since they were decent students who had never been involved in any type of trouble, the principal decided to let them off with detention. Everyone closed for school on that day and Alec decided to wait for his brothers till their detention was over. He was happy to see them when they emerged from the room at six in the evening but they ignored him and began to run along the main road in the pack's territory. They got to a junction in the road which led to the woods and headed towards it. He ran after them but was a little too late. By the time he got to where they were, his brothers had shifted into their wolves and were tearing away viciously at each other. Alec knew he couldn't run back to the pack house so he shifted into his wolf and attempted to separate the fighters. He didn't know for how long he had been attempting to separate his brother but he soon got in the way of a kick meant for Zane. He saw the world tilt on its axis before he experienced a black out. He came around to see several worried faces surrounding his bed while his siblings were absent. He jumped to his feet and aggressively asked after them and he was shown where they were on the other side of the room on their knees. Their father patted him and told him to rest after inquiring if they were okay. That night, after everyone had left for their own quarters, their father, who was the Alpha, had visited them and asked to have a talk with them. He had informed them that the earlier they knew they had to share things, the better for them. He made them realise that they would have to share everything from the title of Alpha to mate bond and even the children their mate gives birth to would carry all of their genes. That night, Alec remembered how harsh their father had told them the truth and how they had struggled with the realisation for days. That was the last of the fight. A week after their father's harsh admonishment to them, they had all met behind the pack house and decided it was best to resolve things while each of them should be aware that all things which belonged to the title of Alpha would be shared between them. He remembered that Zane had gotten curious about how a mate would bear children and the children would carry all of their genetic makeup. He had therefore suggested that they all go for a DNA test in different hospitals while they each took along a strand of each other's hair. They had all gotten their results two weeks later and when they opened them, they were all astonished. Each person's result was the same as the other person. Each result also concluded that the two different strands of hair belonged to the same person. That made them give up on trying to differentiate among themselves. They had to accept the bitter truth and move on with life. After their father's death, they had taken the title of Alpha with good faith. Alec came out of his reminiscing when he heard Nessa speaking to him. She was saying something which captured his interest but he allowed her to finish what she was saying before he would know what to reply to her. "What do you and your brothers plan to do now? Will she be accepted as the pack's luna? You have to remember how weak and timid she is. You don't expect someone like Sophie to respect her? Won't you guys think things through and do as Sophie had said earlier? I mean rejecting her.”
