I found Lila in the dorm, pacing. She looked up the moment I came in.
“What happened?” she whispered, rushing over.
I glanced at the closed door, then pulled her into my arms. “It’s handled.”
She clung to me, trembling. “You fought him, didn’t you?”
“Had to.” I kissed her hair, breathing her in. “He was getting too close.”
She pulled back, searching my face. “Did he say anything?”
“Kade sent him. Told him to find out what’s ‘off’ about you. He didn’t get anything. I made sure of it.”
She looked away, eyes filling with fear. “Asher, what if Kade doesn’t stop? What if he sends someone else? What if he figures it out?”
I cupped her face, forcing her to meet my eyes. “Let him try. He can send the whole damn academy, and I’ll take them all on. No one’s getting to you.
