The deal.

This is definitely not happening. I could not believe my ears right now. “What did you just say?” I asked. He was expected to repeat it because I did not get him clearly. I needed to be clarified and understand why he just said this. Could he be drunk? “I am not under the influence, and yes, you heard me well” he said with so much seriousness embedded in his tone. He then drew the document from his briefcase and placed it on the table before us. It was actually a proposal document. I don't understand what is happening here. You are seriously trying to tell me that the one man I felt was sane compared to Jeremy is actually insane. “You're insane. You don't expect me to get married to somebody I barely know. How are we going to have a family?” I said with so much anger and disgust embedded in my tone. “This deal is going to help you. I am a multimillionaire. Keep that in mind” he said as he left the bar. This man is really insane. To think that I actually thought he was the most responsible man among the two of them. “I could also help your mother”, he added, and left without a trace. This man just said something regarding my mother. He definitely knows something. I have never disclosed anything about her to Jeremy or anybody close to me. It has always been something I have kept discreet. “Hey, wait, Mr. Jerry” I said as I rushed out of the bar to see if he was close by. I needed an explanation as to how he got that information. Unfortunately, he wasn't outside when I got there. I returned into the bar and decided to pack up my things for Ann's shift. That was when I noticed the complimentary card on the table. It must be Jerry's because it bears his name, because the name on it was Mr. Jerry Mickelson. Wait a moment. This is the name of the multimillionaire who owns Mickelson's enterprise. That company has been generating a lot of money, and they said that the owner is richer than even the president himself. No way, you've got to be kidding me. He has been walking in and out of this bar like he is an average man. This is a really rare sight to behold because he has been showing so much of….. “Vanessa!!” I was stunned. I had been deep in my thoughts for a while there that I barely noticed when she walked in there. “What have you been thinking? You look damn exhausted” she said with a soft tone. “I was actually waiting for you to arrive, I was so exhausted. You would barely understand how I feel now” I lamented. I didn't want to tell you what was going on in my head. We wished each other a good day, and then I went my way. When I got home, all I could think of was what made Jerry say what he said. He had proposed to me even when we didn't know anything about each other. I mean, I just saw him at the bar, saw Jeremy, and he barely even says a word to me. This is so ironic. I can't just have some quiet in my house. I was pissed when I heard the doorbell. I dragged my feet as I went to check the door. I pulled the door open, and I was surprised to see Jerry. He was just standing there with a straight look on his face. I was in shock, and I could not utter even a single word because I could not process what was before me. “Aren't you going to let me in?” He asked. “Come in,” I said at a slow pace. I was uncertain whether I was to let him or not. The first question I had in my head was ‘How did he get to my house?’ I took a peek outside, but there was no trace of anyone who followed him. “Nobody brought me here, I just did some basic checks and found your house,” he said as he took a seat on the sofa. This man has got to be kidding me. I haven't told him to sit down, and here he is making himself comfortable like he built the house. This man has got quite an aura that marvels me. “You know this isn't your house” I said, with both hands on my waist. “That doesn't mean it isn't my wife's house,” he said. Here we go. He's got some nerves. “And who said I was your wife, young man?”, I said in a disrespectful tone. This was getting so much out of hand, and I needed to handle it with immediate effect. “You should be happy to accept this contract. You don't know what lies in store for you” he said. He looked so confident while talking. “You sound so sure that I would love to have a life with you” I replied. Finally, some discussions could help me understand this man's plan. “No, you don't have to. This is just a business deal. Besides, I am not ready to get married or settle down”, he explained. “So that makes me just an instrument to you” I said. It was obvious, because I really don't see any suitable word aside from that, because that was the best word to describe my position in his life or in this context generally. “You're not an instrument, Vanessa. You're going to benefit from this. That is only if you want your mother's bills to be paid with immediate effect”, he said. That sentence just caught my attention in a way I wasn't expecting. “How did you know about my mother's health?” I asked. The room was filled with awkward silence for a while as I remained standing with my hands on my waist. “This is the last time. Would you marry me?” He asked with a strong tone. My nerves were all in chaos now, and I knew that I was given one last chance that I had to make use of wisely.
