The strange man.

I wore my apron immediately, and I went to the bar table where I presumed I was going to be working. “Now, you're going to be serving our customers the drink that they want. I will tell you more about the prices” Mr. Johnson explained. He took his time and made sure that he explained to me everything I needed to know in order to start working. I was not so dumb, so understanding everything he said was no big deal. A few minutes later, customers started coming in like they pulled the plug on them. During midday, I would always be given a break to return and continue my night shift. It has already been five days since I have been working here, and I must confess it isn’t as easy as I expected it to be. “I see you look stressed,” a new worker at the bar asked. She was actually trying to put on an apron to replace me at the noon shift while I would return to the night to continue. “Yes, you look new here” I said curiously. I didn't want to be rude by giving a reply that would literally cause the termination of a discussion she obviously wanted to start. “Yes, my name is Ann, and I was employed yesterday” she replied with a jovial smile. She looks like a very social person to me. “You're welcome. I'll be going now” I said as I took up my bag to leave. “Thank you, I am so pumped up right now, I wonder what kind of customers I would get.” I was not ready to sit back and watch her show me how big her mouth was. So I did myself the honor of leaving without giving her a reply. I had some money on me, so I got a cab back home. When the cab finally stopped right in front of my house, I reached into my purse and took out the requested amount of money, and paid him. I opened my door and entered my house after waving at my neighbors who were sitting right in front of their doorsteps. I always loved my personal comfort, so I locked the door and went straight to my room, where I threw myself on the bed. Finally, I could get a nap before the night shift. I was so exhausted, and I could really use a rest. And there goes another disturbance. I heard the sound of the doorbell, but I decided to ignore it. I only needed some time to rest, but humanity wasn't ready to give me that. The sound became persistent, so I forced myself up from the bed to the door. I opened the door slightly and peeped to see who it was. But I could not recognize the person. It was a man dressed in casual wear. He didn't look like he came for any official business. “Good day, miss, please. I need to see Mrs. Brunette. Am I at the right address?” He asked politely. “Yes, she is not at home now, but I could help you” I replied. I kept a straight face because I wasn't happy about the fact that I was disturbed while I was trying to get some rest. “Perfect, I am here to notify you that we would disconnect this building's power supply if the payment is not renewed. You have defaulted for three months now” he explained. “We really need time. Can you just give us one week?” I pleaded. “No ma'am, I don't have the right to do that. I just came here to deliver a message to you. We have tried to reach you via mail, but it has failed”, he added. After he was done making himself clear, he left, and I returned to my room. I tried to return to sleep, but it was not happening. The thoughts of how I had a lot of bills to cover just kept overwhelming me. I was literally going insane with thoughts. I really need help, but I am certain that I won't find help soon. I could not hold back my emotions anymore, so I broke down in tears. I sobbed for a while until I had poured my heart out. I had work to go to, so I was not ready to slag and drown in my sorrow. I quickly freshened up and returned to work for the night shift. “You're back for the night,” Ann said as she saw me walk in. I ignored her because I was not in the mood to have a good discussion with anyone at the moment. “You can't ignore me all day actually” she continued. This was beginning to piss me off. “Just run along, lad. I have work to do” I said sternly. I cared less about what my words were going to do to her. “OK, if you say so” she replied with a soft voice and decided to leave as I instructed. There was my conscience trying to make me feel guilty. “It's Vanessa, My name is Vanessa”. I succumbed to my guilty conscience and decided to give her a chance. “That's such a cute name you have there” she replied with a huge smile on her face. Ann was a jovial lady and very slow to anger. “You should get going. It's almost dusk, and you don't want to get involved with these thugs”, I advised. She nodded in positive affirmation and left. But she didn't do so without letting out a huge smile. “That's such a cute smile you have there, young lady” a young man said while clearing his throat. That was when I realized that someone was actually looking at me. He looked very handsome and had a huge physique. He wore a radiant smile while he sat on the bar table looking at me. He drew closer and tried holding my hands, but I quickly reacted with a slap on his face.
