Bride Of Honor.

In a confused state.

There, I was waiting for the dagger to come plunge into my heart or probably my body lying on the floor, but something else happened. While my eyes were closed, I heard fists and punches given and taken. I opened my eyes to see somebody whose face was not clear, taking down four men alone.

Before I could realize it, he was done beating them all up, and he ran off without waiting for me to say thank you. He was just the superhero I needed for the night, but I didn't get to apologize and maybe tell him what he had just done for me.

With the feeling that I had a superhero watching me, I walked back home, but this time, I did so with relaxed nerves.

I didn't hesitate to throw myself on the bed when I got to my house. I was really exhausted, and I needed to get some rest.

The following morning, I was really reluctant to get up from bed. It just seemed like a heavy log was placed on top of my body because I was too lazy to lift myself up from the bed.

After a while, I dragged my lazy feet into the bathroom and took a warm shower, after which I got dressed after having breakfast and headed straight to the hospital to see Mum.

She was so happy when she saw me that she literally tried to jerk herself out of bed. I eagerly embraced her and gave her a soft kiss on her cheek.

“I missed you mum” I said with a large smile. She also had a smile on her face to show that she was feeling the same way I was feeling.

“You're looking good, my love. You didn't come to sleep with me last night” she said. I quickly had a memory flash and remembered that I hadn't told her about my job.

“You most certainly would not believe it if I told you, mum” I said with a soft voice. Her ears were already wide open to hear what I had to spill. I could tell that she was getting really curious.

“You should not keep your mother in suspense. Talk to me” she said. Curiosity is already evident in her expression. Because of her condition, I didn't want to stress her in any way.

“I got a job, mum”, I spilled the coffee without hesitation.

“You mean you finally got a job?” She asked. Excitement and joy were embedded in her tone.

“Yes mum. I work in a bar now. I'll soon get you out of here”, I said with a soft smile. I was really excited about sharing it with her.

“You should use that money and take care of yourself, my love. I am way past my life here on earth” she said.

“Mum, you have started with these talks again. You know you hurt me when you say things,” I lamented. She always says this most times.

“I am sorry, my love. Have you had breakfast?” She asked. I completely forgot that I hadn't asked her if she had anything to eat this morning.

“Yes mum. What about you, mum?” I asked. While I waited for her reply, I took a look at my wristwatch, and then I realized that I had almost been getting late for work. It was almost 8 a.m., and I needed to be at work soon.

“Mum, I will be leaving now. I need to go to work now” I said. Mum's happy looks were already turning to sad.

“You should take care of yourself, please,” she said while touching my cheeks softly. I nodded in positive affirmation, and l placed a kiss on her forehead.

“OK mum” I replied and rushed off to work immediately. Obviously, I took a cab to work so that I could get there on time.

Without hesitation, I got things set to begin the day at work. It was going to be a very good day. I could sense it deep within me. That was the feeling I was having until the door opened, and I looked up to see someone who I was not happy to see.

It was Jeremy who came in last night with a burning desire to have me at all costs. He was accompanied by a charming-looking young man.

“Good morning, my love. Let me have a cup of beer, and you can take my friend's order,” he said as he notched on the chair. I turned towards his friend with a look of expectancy to take his order.

“Water, just a cup of water,” he said. I went ahead to get what they asked for.

“Come on, man, don't tell me you just came here for water” Jeremy said while patting his friend on the back. His friend just smiled without saying anything to him.

“Here you go sir” I said as I pushed their cups at them.

“Vanessa, you're looking beautiful today. You certainly proved to be the case last night”, Jeremy said. Here we go. He just wants to begin with his problem again.

I ignored him and went on with attending to other customers. He didn't stop looking at me, and his friend just gently sipped from the glass of water.

Then, it seemed like something just struck my memory. I turned to look at the man who accompanied Jeremy to come here, and he looked very familiar, but I couldn't recall where I had met him before.

I tried so hard to c***k my memory, but nothing was coming forth. “Is there a problem, young lady?” the man asked. I was already nervous. I didn't want him to notice that I was staring at him all this while.

“No sir, I am sorry. I actually felt I recognized you from somewhere”. I summoned the courage to say something. He didn't say a word, nor did he leave any expression on his face. He had just finished up his glass of water.

Finally, he looks like the man who saved me last night.I must certainly be right. He looks just like him. I know I didn't see him well, but I am certain that he looks exactly like him.
