The security cameras had audio. Lorenzo had heard all of it.
"Sofia. One last chance." His voice was ice. "What. Did. You. Say."
Sofia's lip trembled. "Lorenzo. I would never lie to you. You're the only one who's ever—"
Lorenzo kicked a table into her.
"You... You know I've always protected you. And this is how you pay me back?"
Sofia was a wreck. Crying, sniveling. But she still wouldn't say it.
"Play the footage!" Lorenzo shouted.
The screen lit up.
There was Sofia's face. Laughing.
"Here's the best part. Lorenzo was there. He grabbed me. He let your son drop."
The color went out of Sofia's face.
Lorenzo hit a new level of rage.
He hadn't been there that day. She'd invented all of it. She'd lied to destroy Elena.
He slapped Sofia. Hard, across the face.
"Liar!" he screamed.
