“Then no deal,” Justin replied evenly. Marty and Abby nodded agreement and then Marty remembered that Justin could not see them and verbalized, “Agreed.”

Michael was late again, and students sat waiting. He had called in to have an assistant let his class know he would be a few minutes late, but by the time he got there the hour-long class was almost half over. He apologized profusely to the class and told them of yet another personal emergency. He assured them that he would cover all of the material. There were distressed expressions around the room, but no one complained. At the end of the class, Michael apologized once more and returned to his office to find a note requesting that he meet with the university chancellor.
