# CHAPTER THREE
Baron
The atmosphere immediately turned heavy.
Who would dare to come at us like this?
We were too dangerous to be attacked the way we were.
But none of that mattered right now.
We had to stay alive first.
The gunshots kept getting closer to us.
One bullet hit the ground just inches away from my feet.
“Get down!”
I grabbed D and pulled him down with me.
We quickly found somewhere to hide, both of us ducking behind a BMW that was neatly on display for sale.
Bullets tore through the car from every direction.
The sound was so loud it hurt my ears.
Glass shattered around us.
I could hear bullets hitting the metal body of the car, one after another.
“What the hell is happening?” I asked, my voice shaking.
D looked around, trying to figure out where the shots were coming from.
“Where the hell is Jamil?” I demanded angrily.
“I don’t know what’s going on. My men were outside.” I said nervously.
D looked at me.
“Let’s stay under cover and figure out how to shoot back.”
I loaded my weapon immediately.
My hands were steady now.
Fear had disappeared.
There was only survival.
I raised my weapon slightly above the car and fired toward where the bullets were coming from.
D moved to cover me.
We fired back.
For several seconds, the entire place sounded like a war zone.
Then...
Total Silence.
The shooting eventually stopped.
Neither of us moved immediately.
We waited.
We listened.
Nothing.
D slowly lifted his head.
I did the same.
We crept out of our hiding spot.
We needed to see what had happened.
Then we saw it.
Jamil had shot Julius twice in both arms.
Julius was badly wounded.
Blood was pouring out of him.
I stared at him.
Julius was one of our own.
He was in charge of the men handling our inside operations.
He had worked with us long enough to know how things were done.
He knew our rules.
He knew our people.
He knew our business.
So why was he firing at us?
My eyes narrowed.
Something wasn't right.
D stepped forward and slammed his gun against Julius's head.
“Who sent you to kill us?” he asked with rage.
Julius said nothing.
“Why were you shooting at us?” D asked again.
Still nothing.
Julius looked away.
I clutched my fist. Anger filled my heart. My eyes instantly turned dark.
That was when D noticed he was still holding his lit cigar.
His face changed.
He pressed it straight into Julius's eye.
Julius screamed and jerked his head violently.
“Who sent your useless ass? Did you steal my products?” D asked, dragging his face up to meet his eyes.
Julius couldn't meet D's eyes.
He couldn't meet mine either.
He kept trying to look away.
And D understood immediately.
He grabbed him and started beating him hard with his weapon.
“Where is it?” he roared, fury burning in his eyes.
“Where is my product?”
He struck him again and again across the face.
Blood rolled down the corners of his mouth.
His nose wasn’t left out.
He was bleeding heavily.
His breathing became heavier.
“D, you need to calm down.”
I pulled him back.
D staggered as he took few steps away.
His hands were covered with blood.
He didn’t care.
He used the back of his left hand covered with blood to wipe off sweat from his head.
His whole body was still shaking.
He was on edge.
This wasn't just an attack anymore.
Someone had betrayed us.
Someone who knew our movements.
Someone who knew where we were.
Someone who knew exactly what would hurt D the most.
His products.
D needed answers.
He needed to find his product.
And he needed to find it right now.
No one was talking.
Not yet.
Patience was never something D had.
Even his wife knew that about him.
If he wanted something done, he wanted it done immediately.
“We got this, D,” I reassured him.
He nodded slowly in agreement.
He lit another cigar quickly to steady himself.
“Hey... hey... look at me.”
I stepped closer to Julius.
“Where did you take his products?”
I cut in with a hard frown on my face.
Julius didn't look like he planned to say anything.
But he was bleeding.
And he was bleeding too much.
I was starting to worry.
I didn't care about him.
Not anymore.
But I needed him alive.
At least for now.
The other two men we killed had made it look like an accident.
The only person who could tell us the truth was here.
And he couldn't die yet.
“D, he's bleeding too much,” I said as he paused with the cigar.
I wasn't sure D was hearing me.
His face was twisted with fury.
He wasn't saying anything at this point.
Julius was smiling with thick blood spilling from his mouth.
That smile bothered me.
Why was he smiling?
Was he happy that we had finally found him?
Or was he laughing because he knew something we didn't?
I got up and walked to D.
“We need him alive. He's getting weaker,” I said firmly, holding D back.
D looked at me.
“We can't treat the enemy like a friend.”
His voice was cold.
“He needs to talk now.”
He looked back at Julius.
“We need to know who dared to come after us.”
He took a slow drag from his cigar.
“We need to know before Robert and Stefan arrive. They trust us as their lead.”
His jaw tightened.
“This is weakness.”
I didn't respond.
I looked back at Julius.
His eyes were slowly shutting.
“Julius.”
They was no response.
I stepped closer.
“Julius!”
His head moved slightly.
I could see his body getting weaker.
I ran to him.
“Tell me now. Who sent you?”
I tried to stop the bleeding, but his body was already going cold.
His eyes rolled back.
For a second, I thought he was gone.
Then his lips moved.
I leaned closer.
His voice was barely a whisper.
“The enemies are within.”
My eyes widened.
I looked at D.
He was staring at Julius.
Neither of us spoke.
The words stayed in the air.
“The enemies are within.“
That meant someone close to us had betrayed us.
Someone we trusted.
Someone who knew our business.
Someone who knew our movements.
And we needed to find them today.
