INTRODUCTIONEdmond Moore Hamilton (1904–1977) was born in Youngstown, Ohio. He grew up there and in nearby New Castle, Pennsylvania, where he graduated high school at age 14. He then enrolled in Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania, but failed academically and left at age 17 before graduating. Hamilton’s career as a science fiction writer began with the publication of the short story “The Monster God of Mamurth” in the August 1926 issue of Weird Tales magazine. Hamilton quickly became a central member of the writers assembled by editor Farnsworth Wright—a group that included H. P. Lovecraft, Robert E. Howard, Clark Ashton Smith, Frank Belknap Long, E.
