Everything had gone wrong. I had no idea how Lucien was right there, in front of me, but I couldn't lie to myself; the joy and relief I felt on seeing him was too profound to be ignored. I hadn't realized earlier how important he had become to me, and now his safety was compromised because he came to save me.
"Now our lovely miracle doctor." The politician waltzed over to me. "Your dear husband here wants to know exactly what we are talking about, and I firmly believe in the saying that there are no secrets between a husband and a wife. So please, do us the honor."
