CHAPTER 3

**Damien's POV** I aimed my rifle at his thigh and pulled the trigger. The anguish in his eyes was a satisfaction that twisted something dark within me. He screamed, but I knew his cries would vanish into this barren space, unheard and unheeded. "You should really save your energy," I said, stepping closer. "No one is coming for you, and even if they did, what could they do? So why don't you just save it?" I shoved him back down onto the cold floor. He didn’t deserve a quick end. He had broken a signed contract. It wasn't like he couldn’t afford to pay; greed had led him to this point. His greed was tightening around him like a noose, and I enjoyed watching him squirm. We had helped him win the election. My team had risked everything, working behind the scenes to ensure his success. Yet once he was in power, he thought he could ignore his obligations to me. A mistake that would come back to haunt him—after all, I had eyes everywhere. I squatted beside him, looking at his pale, bruised face. Part of me felt a rush at the thought of ending it right there, but it wouldn’t provide the satisfaction I craved. "Now, tell me, who’s losing here?" I taunted. "Please... I'll make it 50-50—just let me go!" he pleaded, desperation lacing his voice. "I have kids in school. Please, I beg you." How kind of him to offer a split now when he couldn’t even meet a simple 30-70 deal. “Do you really think I’d believe you?” I retorted. “You were charging far more before this mess. Why would I trust you now?” The door swung open, and Diggy, my informant, entered with an uneasy look. “It’s time, boss,” he said. “Can’t you see I’m busy?” I snapped, momentarily aiming my pistol in his direction. I wouldn’t shoot; he was still useful to me. “I’m sorry, boss,” Diggy replied, keeping his eyes on the floor. “But you asked for a reminder.” Although he appeared harmless, Diggy was brave when it came to his tasks. “What time is it?” I asked, holstering my weapon as I moved toward the door. I gestured to my guard, known as Fiery. “Get the bullet out.” I stepped into the garage, flanked by my six armed men, including Jasper, my right-hand man. Minutes later, we drove out through the main gate. Today was pivotal. After two years of waiting, it was time to claim what was rightfully mine. I recalled how Daniel had come to me, begging like a child to save his company. He had offered his daughter as collateral, promising to repay me or lose her. As we prepared to line up for our mission, I suddenly felt uninterested. "Jasper," I called. He turned toward me, question lining his face. "You all can continue without me," I said, waving my hand. "Make sure you bring her back. Nothing should stop you." “Boss…” Jasper hesitated, wanting to question my decision. “Anyone who gets in your way is against my mission. Deal with it and go.” I turned my back, leading my remaining men deeper into the mansion while Jasper took charge of the others. "You can all head to your quarters," I said as I moved briskly into my study. "I’ll call when I need you." Once inside, I activated the CCTV connected to the car that had just left. Jasper was behind the wheel, chatting comfortably with someone in the passenger seat. It was strange to see him relaxed; he had always been so reserved. Minutes later, they pulled into a building. Jasper and two others headed inside while the remaining men waited in the car. I felt a strange anticipation—it was normal, I mused. We would soon meet the woman who would bear my heirs. The terms were simple: she would give me two sons in two years, and then she would have her freedom. If she tried to complicate matters, I would ensure her path was filled with challenges. Daniel had gambled everything and lost, a victim of his own choices. I didn’t feel sorry for him; this was how the world worked—built on shadows and betrayal. Adjusting my jacket, I prepared for the next phase of my plan. To some, I might seem like the villain, but all I was doing was reclaiming what was rightfully mine, playing the game that had been dealt to me. The clock ticked away, and I waited. Moments turned into minutes until I finally heard echoes from the CCTV footage Jasper was emerging with her. I steeled myself for the interaction that could change everything. The door creaked open, and I looked up. Ready to meet her—the woman who would help continue my legacy. I wondered if she realized the challenges ahead. Maybe she’d embrace her role and become an ally instead of a liability. This was a dangerous game we were playing, but I needed to focus on the task at hand. She would go free, but first, she had to fulfill her part of the deal. Our future depended on it—one that would either strengthen or doom us both.,
