Eye cont*ct

2512 Words
Those painful memories were books with chapters, deep and horrible; and so she left them on the shelf to gather dust. She could pick them up if she needed to learn something, to gain a perspective that would help her be somebody else in the story. Someone different than the villain in too many books, to be the hero, the survivor, the young lady that she was.      She stood there, staring outside the glass wall she had. Isn’t this what everybody wanted? Wealth and a big house? Well perhaps but not for her. Money, looks or fame weren’t the things she wanted, yet they were what she owned. She wanted something else... her older self, her life and the only thing she ever cared about; her family.      Her back was towards the door, she couldn’t see who had opened it and entered but her nose easily picked up the scent of him as he closed the door behind him and rested his back. The sun set down, she could faintly see his face on the glass. She turned her head to the side and stared.      “What is it?”     She asked. He was used to her deep, calm voice. He stared her up and down and shaking his head, he said.      “It’s nine in the morning and you still aren’t dressed for school.”     Her lips formed into a straight line. Was this really what he came for? Ace could really be annoying some times. She turned around and gave him a glare.             “Denies what happened”he yelled walking towards her as he took in the sight of the cut on her leg.             “It’s not like it hurts. Are you going to take a million years to understand that I’m not human?”     She replied back, rolling her eyes and turning her back on him. He let out a sigh getting nearer and standing behind her.             “Please Denies, tell me what happened”Ace tried again.             “It’s nothing, just get out” She lowered her voice, feeling guilty. He was just worried, nothing more and didn’t deserve that.             After a few moments of both of them standing quietly, he gave up. The second sigh that escaped Ace’s dry lips was slow, as if his brain needed that time to process what had happened to her. His eyes remained fixed on the ground as he got out, respecting what she wanted.      She was too sad to cry out or wail, she just stood there as still as a statue while the magnitude of her loss swept over her. It was a memory that carried her forwards until only death could release her from it's clutches. She was forever tormented by a past that could not be undone.            That day’s date alone was putting her on edge and she also had to go to school. That date, two years ago was the reason she became like this. Denies Santiago.             She stretched her arms, a habit of hers and walked towards her closet. As always, black was her first option. She was obsessed with anything black and leather. She put them on quickly, going for a change by picking a red shirt and walked outside.      As the car engine sung to the lone country roads, Denies relished the roaring winds that twirled in her long raven hair and whistled in her ears. She had moved schools from Jefferson High to Lincoln High. She had never lived in New York and it was a big change for her. She didn’t like the crowds streets anymore.      Gazing straight ahead, only half-aware of a world outside the claustrophobic comfort of the car, of her hands stroking the wheel, the almost soundless changing of the gears, the pattern of traffic lights...            The ride there was usually about twenty to twenty five minutes but due to her speed it only took ten. Not that she was rushing to reach her school, she just hated driving slowly. She was new to driving also, her first year but she had practiced before.             As she arrived, her eyes roamed the place. Nobody was walking around and no laughter echoing in her ears. She was late. Yet, she heard an engine of a car behind. She stared at the rear view mirror, smirking. It was him. Of course, all the time following her to check on her safety. Though, she wasn’t sure if he was worried about her or about the other students.      Her hand went downwards, reaching all the way down to her sigh. The cut had already healed, there was no sting upon her touch.             The moment she slammed the car’s door shut, Ace came right beside her and they both headed to their destination.      It took them only a few wrong doors to find the principal’s office.     The office was painted blue, and it had only one window, which faced the main road. On the white desk sat a desktop computer, a notebook lying open, and a stack of papers. In a corner, the air conditioner was blasting at medium, and there was a swivel chair in the middle of the office. A bookshelf, filled with books was in the other corner, with yet another stack of papers under a paperweight that was shaped to look like a tuft of grass. A pen was lying on the papers, but had fallen onto the top of the bookshelf.     Her eyes swam towards the white haired old man sitting behind the desk with square glasses on.             She sent him her signature smirk and winked arrogantly. Her head spun to the side as she took a seat and Ace talked instead of her.     “Our timetables.”     He requested as it sounded more like an order. The principal immediately, with no hesitation, reached inside his drawer and took out a file. The poor man couldn’t stop stealing nervous glances at them from time to time while looking through the papers.      With no word, his arm raised up, with two square white cards. Ace nodded, taking them and ushering for Denies that he was done.      They both walked out as he gave her hers. They didn’t have the same classes all the time. They shared more than a few including the first class on Monday. At least they got to spend some time together.             As she was walking, Denies was cursing everyone she had and hadn’t met in that building. Why did it have to be math as her first class? She hated it with all her heart. She hoped that school wasn’t like the old one. If they lock doors after the bell rang, then she would have to wait five more minutes only for another person to decipher their arrival. Not a cute thing.              Also, she was feeling angry that day. Her hybrid Maddie was uneasy since the day before, she kept pacing around in her head trying to deliver a message. She was forcing her to walk faster. Ace scowled, confuses as to why she was rushing over to the other hallway, she was already not human, no need to quicken her pace.             Her eyes were clouded. Just like a blue sky covered with some clouds. The grey would be described as a signal for the sky to start raining.      Her hand reached to the knob, turning it around quickly. Everything was going in slow motion. Her hair slapped her face as she turned to the side, boots bumped into each other, letting out a loud popping sound.      The door flew open as she stood in the door way, searching around. Maddie was on the verge of taking control of her whole body and actions. Her breath had quickened and her heartbeats got louder.      The class got silent. Whatever can silence be? For is there not always the sound of one’s own heart? Just as with whiteness there is light, and blackness is a canvass for dreams; if there is a soul present, there is always something. And so as the quietness started fading and her ears caught on a steady rhythm from within. It was the sound of heartbeats! Of course, being a hybrid, she could hear quiet sounds but those specific drums were special and louder than others. It was as if the moon goddess had purposely chosen one person.      Then as the fog in her brain started decreasing, the most intoxicating scent hit her. Maddie was jumping up and down in her head, fighting to get out.     Denies sucked in her breath, her hands freezing on the opened door. The word her hybrid had spoken was too dangerous, surprising and unpleasant. But still, she couldn’t stop her heart from wanting it like it was the only hope left.      “Mate.”     She murmured.      On the other hand, as he finished reading that page, he was finally able to raise his head and stare at what had made the class so silent.      His eyes immediately found her. As she was standing there, looking around, as slowly as ever. To him, she was a tall piece of heaven. Her long dark black hair was left down. She was so slim, her fit shape clearly showed that food wasn’t a hobby of hers. Her red shirt was clinging to her body dangerously tight, it was a shame she was wearing a leather jacket.             His heart was hammering in his chest as he scanned up to her eyes, they were something out of this world. Dangerous and mysterious. As quick as he had found them, he had fallen in love with those grayish blue irises of hers. Were there any pair of eyes more intimidating than those she owned? He doubted. They could be pencil drawn with a blue marker adding to their beauty. How magnificent.             He adored her high cheekbones with the kind of white skin that reminded him of snow white and made his mouth water at the same time. She had a strong jaw. A type that could cut someone till they bled to death. Or maybe that was an exaggeration.             She seemed to be searching for something or someone. It took her a few minutes until she stopped, seeming to find her treasure.      His breath felt hitched in his throat. She was staring deeply and intensely into his eyes, sucking his soul. The emotions in her eyes were indecipherable. Louis was overwhelmed just by trying to read them.             As he realized how much of a creep he possibly looked, he quickly averted his eyes and looked out the window.             Who was she and why did she have that much power around her to silent the whole class?            A guy beside him gasped quietly, making him turn around to the same direction, looking for something new just like a kid on Easter Day searching for eggs.      That time, it wasn’t a breathtakingly gorgeous female who entered. Yet, a sandy blonde man made his way inside. He wished he could be as much good looking, at least his parents would perhaps like him a little.      They were both the opposite. He was a white brunette while that guy was a tan blonde. He seemed like he was the type of man who didn’t need to spend his time on the beach and can get a natural bronze.             Louis thought all the students in the class would be already planning how to ask them both out but were they dating? Well, little did he know.      A smirk lit his face as words left his mouth. ”I think you all know us but just for more clarification, I’m Ace Brown and she is Denies Santiago. I don’t think I need to say more” His eyebrow raised perfectly as he looked at all of them, giving flirty glances to the girls on purpose.             As soon as he heard their names, he regretted living and waking up that day. Why did have to be a senior? Couldn’t he be in a different class or even century?!           He was still feeling her hard gaze on him, commanding him to stare again or it would burn him down. He kept stealing some glances but looking away immediately.             Surprisingly, they strolled towards him. Louis was praying to the god for them not to choose to sit next to him. Much to his dismay, they sat right in front of him.     He straightened his back, his eyes nervously looking down at the trees from all the way up the window.             From the corner of his eyes, he noticed Ace sleep as soon as he sat down while she laid her back against the wall.      Was she staring at him? Where were her eyes focused? He wondered.        He couldn’t help but start shifting in his seat uncomfortably. Why was she undressing him with her eyes? Was it because he was the only one who had dared make direct eye cont*ct with her?      ‘Oh god, I’m dead’ he thought.             They stayed like that for the whole class. Her gazing at him while his eyes were dancing on the inside until the bell rang. Immediately, he jumped off his seat and ran outside to his next class. He headed to Spanish class praying that he would never have to see any of them until the end of the day.             He chose the first desk, waiting for the teacher to arrive. He rested his back and placed the backpack on the floor.  He heard a familiar boots sound as he guessed who had entered the room. He stared at the floor, seeing those same legs make their way towards the seat beside him.       He was forced to raise his head up to let her pass by and as soon as he realized what he had done, he widened his eyes.       Why did he have to make eye cont*ct again?!
