The party is over

Dan was sitting on the chair, looking at the wall. So many emotions were boiling inside of him. He wanted to do so many things at once and ended up not able to do anything. What he just found out was too overwhelming. He had a daughter. He was sure about that before, but after hearing the whole story it just felt different. He is a father. He is a father since his mate was pregnant and because of the woman sitting 3 chairs away he’s lost so many years with his only descendant. He wanted to punch the wall, to throw all the chairs. He wanted to kill Sofia. Fortunately for her, he was only able to sit and look into space. Celeste on the other hand was the total opposite. She was marching from one end of the room to another, shaking her head time after time. “You’re crazy. You’re a crazy woman!” she said not stopping her walk. “What the hell were you thinking?” “I told you what you wanted to hear.” Sofia replied quietly with her head hunched. She was too scared and ashamed to look up and face Luna or Alpha. “How is that even possible? How come no one noticed?” Dan spoke suddenly after being quiet for a long time. “This Maria… she came to our house a few times after we left the hospital, but she didn’t have any evidence.” Sofia replied, still looking down on her hands. “I guess everyone else was too absorbed in your wife’s death” she added and this time she turned her head to Dan. It worked like a spell on him and now he got up and took a few steps towards her. Celeste rushed to him in case she needed to intervene. Her brother was the calm one, so when he acts like that it means it’s really bad. “Keep my wife out of your f*****g mouth!” he shouted and continued walking towards her when Celeste grabbed his hand to stop him. Usually it was the other way around; he was the one to calm her down. “Celeste she f*****g stole my child! She stole her from me!” Now Dan was shouting to his sister with despair in his voice. “I know Dan. And your child is the one you need to focus on. Don’t do anything you might regret later.” He squeezed her hand and relaxed right after. “You’re right.” Alpha said in a calmer voice, but still breathed heavily. “But it’s not over.” After that he rushed to the door and left the room, shutting the door behind him. He didn’t wait for his sister. Sofia was terrified with tears in her eyes. What else could she expect after doing such a thing to the Alpha family? “One more thing.” Celeste came closer to her and used her hand to lift Sofia’s chin so she could look her in the eyes. “You said that Kie is the reason your husband left you. You meant death, right? The suicide.” she asked, still holding Sofia’s chin. She got so pale like her blood just drained out of her in one second. Silence. “I’m asking something.” Celeste’s voice was quiet but firm, and the grip was getting stronger; she turned her nails into claws. Sofia made a grimace in pain, but looked away and didn’t say anything. She knew that her secrets would fly to the surface someday, and that day has just come. “I see. It all makes sense now. You’re a filthy liar and don’t deserve those two amazing souls.” Their faces were 3 inches away. Celeste tightened the grip the last time while looking at Sofia with disgust. Miles’ mom closed her eyes and tears ran down her cheek. “Dan’s right, you can be sure it’s not over.” Luna said and left the other woman alone in the room. She was furious. How many more lies that woman has spread? She knew she needed to find her brother to decide what to do next. Unaware of the drama between their mom, or rather mom, and step mom, and Alpha family, redheaded mates were heading towards the door to join the party. “Come on Miles, you’re gonna miss your whole party!” Kiara encouraged her brother. The truth was that Miles didn’t care about this stupid party anymore. Everything started to make sense. The power that Kie had over him right now was too big though to say no, so he just smiled and let her lead him. They went straight to the dance floor. For the sake of this night he wanted to have fun and let it all go. He knew that would make his mate happy. The midnight was coming. A lot of his friends were already tipsy, some of them making out secretly, some dancing, some chatting. Everyone seemed to enjoy the party. Miles and Kiara were with their friends at their table. “I’m going to bring us some more drinks.” Said birthday boy. He usually doesn’t drink, but that was a special occasion and it was only his third drink. He proceeded to the table with all sorts of bottles, when he noticed a shadow behind the glass door to the garden. Something felt off so he came closer and his eyes got all round when he recognised the same weird, weak scent that he smelled the night before. He knew he needed to follow the scent. Miles couldn’t see anyone in the garden and now the scent seemed coming from everywhere so he didn’t know where to go. Suddenly a man appeared right in front of him. “How did you do that?” Miles stepped back. “Who are you?” The man was tall, his hair was almost completely grey, but there still were a few red ones. He looked at Miles with his chocolate brown eyes. He didn’t say anything, but he didn’t need to. Miles’ expression changed after a closer look. “D-dad?” stuttered Miles. The man just pulled his son into his arms and tears started coming out of his eyes. “I’m sorry son, I should’ve never left you with her.” He was saying through tears. Miles was crying too. How was that possible? It wasn’t but he was sure that this is his father. He couldn’t describe it but he just felt it. “You need to come with me. I’ll explain everything, but you need to come with me.” Said Robert to his son. “I can’t dad, I…” he wanted to share the news about his mate, but wasn’t sure if it’s good timing, or if it's a good idea at all, but his father dispelled any doubts. “I know about Kiara, I know she’s your mate. Come with me, we have a lot to talk about.” How did he know? Miles’ heart was breaking time after time just thinking about leaving his mate, but maybe his father has some answers? “Okay I’ll go with you. But I need to do something first.” Leaving without saying anything wasn’t an option, but he couldn’t say good bye to her face. Seeing her would probably end up with him staying. He shifted, ripping his clothes off and Robert just followed his son. They ran through the woods to Miles’ house. He walked inside and packed a few things to the sports bag, and after he finished he proceeded to Kie’s room. He unpinned their picture together from the board, took one of her shirts to have her scent close. Something was telling him that he might be gone for a while. Robert was waiting for him in the car. He parked it next to their house as if he was sure that Miles would go with him. Apparently he was right. They drove away. Miles was looking at the picture he was holding in hands. “I love you Kie. Please wait for me.” He slipped into Kiara’s mind. That was bold of him to say, but he actually started hoping that this might work. Maybe not now, but someday. It must work.
