"Are you the new school janitor?"
" Huh?!!" She was confused and looked behind her, maybe the hot guy was talking to someone else. There was no way he was talking to her, the new kid! To her surprise she was the only one near her locker and he was looking straight at her.
"Because you swept me off my feet!" The cute dimples shown on his face while smirking hypnotized her for a second. She rolled her eyes then let out a nervous laugh. "Does this usually work on girls?!"
"It worked on a boy once too. But that was just a bet". He winked at her. Silence!. He could feel her disapproving while closing her locker and beginning to walk away. "Sorry, I'm giving the wrong impression!" He nervously let out, while scratching the back of his neck "I …I'm sorry, let's try again. I'm Zack and I've noticed you're new here, would you like it if I showed you around?" a smile stretched his face.
"Better, still not good though" She was the one winking this time. She turned her back to him and walked to her class. It was the second week of school so she knew her way around, although she had yet to make any friends. To her surprise Zach was right behind her, they had the same class! How come she hadn't noticed before?! And of course, he chose the seat next to her.
"You never told me your name… Come on, I swear I'm a nice kid. I was just too nervous that I screwed it up." he whined.
"So you don't go around making stupid bets? Prank other kids? Oh, and being a terrible flirt?" she asked raising her eyebrow.
"Cross my heart." He genuinely smiled. She smiled back.
"Veda" she said while putting her hand up for him to shake. Instead he raised it to his lips and kissed it. Veda blushed but quickly said " You're too cheesy dude!!"
"That bad huh?" They both laughed softly since the teacher walked in.
Zach walked her to her locker, he didn't know what to say and the silence started to feel uncomfortable. "Why Veda?" he didn't bite his tongue soon enough to stop himself from asking.
"That's a question I actually like to answer" she smiled. He gave her a 'really' look.
"Yeah! Have you ever watched the movie My Girl? Well anyways, my mom was obsessed with it so, she named me after the main protagonist. It's funny since we're both blondes. Although my mom chose the name even before meeting me." she chuckled mostly to herself. From that moment on, Zack and Veda became inseparable. First as friends then he tried everything he could and treated her the best way possible, till he won her heart. After that they became the golden couple of the school, even though they weren't popular separately their love for each other made everyone notice them.
She woke up on the cold floor, her clothes ripped and scattered. She ran her hand down her face trying to stop the tears and ease her headache. She as always, was trying to figure out where she went wrong. What did she do for Zack to change drastically, from the Sweet Love of her life, to this controlling monster!. It is her fault… She doesn't know exactly why, but Zack makes sure she always remembers it's always her fault. Maybe she asked for it when she wore that skirt he didn't like because it was 'too revealing'. Or maybe when she went to that party, right before their graduation, after all she looked like a w**** with all that makeup on! Could it be because she applied for colleges in other states? She should have known, she had to ask him first!.
More tears flooded her cheeks, then she heard the door open and in walked Zach. He was holding a bag of fresh change of clothes and flowers behind his back. She couldn't even look at him, so she darted her gaze to his approaching feet.
"Hey love… I brought you some new clothes, you're going to love them." he said crouching right in front of her, putting the bag next to him. "The top is red, your favorite color! And the black pants have little butterflies near the bottom." She was still looking anywhere but his face, so he grabbed her chin and forced her face up to meet his gaze. "Why are you so sad? my beautiful butterfly!" A shiver ran through her body, he used to always call her that, back when he was nice. "LOOK AT ME!!" he yelled, spit reached her face. She opened her eyes just as he threw the flowers next to her. "Baby…!" he whispered the word. It was scary. "You ruined the surprise!!" He picked up the flowers, dusted them then gave them to her. She took them while shaking.
"Th… Thank you. I am… I'm sorry. I didn't mean to. I didn't know…" "sh…shush, sweetheart" he sat near her and held her head to his chest. "It's okay love… You know I love you, and can't stand seeing you crying!" She didn't say anything, she just sobbed silently. "Aren't you going to say it back? love!" he sounded agitated.
"I… I love you too." He moved away a little just so he could lay his head on her lap, holding her hand and placing it on his brown curls so she'd pat his head. " I love you… I would never hurt you if it wasn't for your own good. I'm only helping you be better."
