Nyeer and I hurried over to the sapling that bent in the middle and touched the ground. My heart beat faster as we stepped closer to the human realm.
“Do you know the house she spoke of, Nyeer?”
He nodded. “I’ve heard of it. The Witch is an old legend. Calico’s thwarted lover.”
I hadn’t heard of such a person. “What do you know?”
“That she is Fae. Immortal. Older than both of us.”
I sucked in a painful breath. “Then she is powerful.”
I touched the crystal at my waist. The Mage had done us a favor, giving us a stone that would amplify the magic we possessed.
“Very. Calico banned her from Faerie centuries ago. They say she is the reason the Slayers united and created the Academy.”
