Chapter 4 - Let's talk

1705 Words
Business Week will start 3 days from now. It's the grandest week in Stallion that highlights the achievements of College of Business for the previous year. It is when the stalls are set up across the student park and different lounges in the university to showcase the business ideas of the students. "This year, I bid the highest amount to fund the student council's booth. Dwight was shocked and surely overwhelmed with how much I can give for his project." I laughed when I remembered how he looked a while ago. He must have not expected my presence. "He looked like he was ready for war, Yasmin. He's obviously not interested with you. Quit playing. You're just gonna end up..." "Stop Ash. You're making conclusion without looking at the bigger picture first. I'm not playing with him." I seriously want to be friend with him. He rolled his eyes. Emerald is not here, so no one is defending me from Ashton's criticism. "And you think going all out will make you win his heart? He looks so conceited and egoistic, Yasmin!! Dwight can never reciprocate the love you can give." He's the most judgmental person I have met I swear. "How can you say that? And please, Ash, I am not into any romantic fantasies about Dwight. I just find the guy interesting. The way he carries himself in every situation is really amazing. He can just stand in the stage and still be imposing." I giggled while he rolled his eyes again. We are in the SC Office now waiting for the secretary who instructed us to come with her as we will make arrangement regarding the amount that I bid a while ago. My eyes can't stop glancing at the door everytime someone opens it. I'm waiting for the apple of my eyes these past few weeks. My lips curved for a smile when I saw her walking with the SC president himself. Dwight's eyes were directed to me as he spoke to the lady beside him. I smile wide when he looked down at me who's now casually sitting in the sofa. "Excuse me. We've been waiting for almost 10 minutes here. Can we make it quick? We still have lunch appointment after this," Ash said in a slightly irritated tone, but he made sure that only the four of us heard. "Sorry to keep you waiting..." The secretary reponded but my eyes remained staring at Dwight. I saw clearly how his jaw moved as a sarcastic smile formed in his lips. Even that thing looks sexy in him. "Let's talk for a while, Yasmin." My jaw dropped. What is that for? That was a simple statement yet my system sensed danger. He stared down at Ash too who's sitting beside me. "I'll be waiting in my office." And just like that, he walked away. I cleared my throat before facing Ash. "He needs me in his office. Wait for me here, okay? I'll be back shortly." I even winked at him. My smile was so wide. I felt like I won a lottery when im fact he just asked me to talk. It was really cold inside his office. When I shut the door closed, he looked up to me from his chair and pointed at the couch. I want to sit closer to him so I take the chair near his table. "You don't have to thank me, Dwight. I know that it's going to be a successful project because you're leading it." His serious reaction didn't change a bit. "Thank you for what? What exactly do you want, Yasmin? Why are you suddenly approaching me? Tell me, so I can give a fair fight." He stood which made my knees trembled. I still can't believe how he makes me feel. "I just want to be your friend. From what I saw in the previous weeks, you only hang out with your guy friends..." He cut me off there. "You haven't seen my girls at night, Yasmin. Do you want to be one of them?" I was caught off guard. My hands felt cold and I could not find sthe right words. He stared at me as if enjoying my reaction. I cleared my throat. I was not expecting that. "Why, Yasmin? Do you think I'll fall into your trap? I notice everything that you do. I'm just not interested." I feel the weight of every eord he said. I tried to remain compose. "When someone helps you, you're supposed to say thank you." "I'm not accepting your help, Yas. I'll pay the price you bid, so I don't have to feel indebted to you. You can go seduce other men." I smiled too. "Fine. For sure 25 million is just a small amount for you. I don't care if you're not going to accept my money, I'll still be around your booth." His jaw moved again and this time he slowly walked towards me. "Why would you do that?" His voice was so soft. I did stand so our eyes will on the same level. I don't want to look up to him. "Because I want to be your friend." He laughed sardonically. He scanned me from hesd to toe which made me flustered. "Well I want to be your friend coz I like you, Dwight." His eyes went fiery with my answer. I gave him a sweet smile. "I am not interested, Yas." "Try to put some conviction in your answer next time. I have to go now. My friend is waiting outside." I was about to walk pass to him when he grabbed my arm. That surprised me. "Dont even try pulling your jokes on me. I can't tolerate that." "That's not a joke." "You're literally telling me you like me while a man is waiting for you outside." His dangerous tone is on. I removed his hand on my arm. "He's a friend." He took a deep sigh. "Leave. And don't bother me again. If you keep indulging yourself after this conversation, you won't like what I would do." "That's noted, Dwight. I look forward to what you'll do. Bye." I saw him looking frustrated at me as I left. Even when I turned around to walk away, I saw his reflection on the glass door still giving me that look. I'll make you want me too. Damn those eyes and lips. How can he look so perfect in every reaction? It was Friday and my friends convinced me to ditch my afternoon classes to go to a resort in Tagaytay. It was just less than 2 hours of drive fromcour school. We had snacks when we arrived there then we lounged in the pool. It was a property of Ashton's family, so we got served everything we needed. In the afternoon, we had wine while watching the sunset. "You know my coach will kill me for missing tonight's training, but this is so damn worth it." I raised my glass and looked at Emerald and Ashton who also raised their glasses of wine. "We are living the best time of our lives for Pete's sake! We don't care about people getting angry or grades failing." Emerald answered. "Please don't mention anything about grades. It frustrates me. Please." We laughed at Ash. The next morning, I went to school early for the training. As expected, I was punished severely by coach. 10 laps in the oval + 100 squats. I was literally catching my breath after the 5th lap. That morning was a nightmare. It made me question if yesterday's escapade was really worth it. I had lunch with my team. Coach treated us to a salad restaurant inside the school. This place made me cringe. It is where I always ate during my last year in senior high school when I needed to lose weight for my last competition. It's cozy and elegant, operating for the prominent kids of this school. He gave me my favorite coffee. He may be hard sometimes, but outside the court he's sweet. "Go to clinic before going home. Your muscles might hurt tonight. I don't want you to skip trainings after this." He warned. "Of course, coach!! You migt just kill me literally next time. Anyway, mom wants to invite you and your girlfriend in the opening of her new restaurant in Taft next weekend. She'll give away formal invitation, but I just want to inform you ahead." "Okay. I'll free my schedule on the weekend." We were asking the juniors a lot of questions when a group of men came in. My eyes only focused on the man in white. Dwight was walking with his friends. The girls in our table also looked in the direction where I found myself lost. He looks stunning. When Dwight's eye met mine, his jaw moved as if he was angry. I haven't done anything yet. I didn't smile or anything. Does my presence annoy him THAT MUCH? I avoided his gaze because I might end up approaching him. This is the first time I give so much attention to a guy, and he can't even return the privelege. I'm personally offended. They sat 1 table away from us. I saw Elliot waving at Ivana. They are goinf out and I hate to admit it but they're so ideal. Elliot is a childhood friend of Dwight, according to Ash. He's suc ha gentleman and he has a good sense of humor. Everytime he would wait for Ivana in thr training hall, I felt his sincerity. If he can just teach Dwight a little of that, I'd be the happiest person. Not long after they arrived, coach asked me to already go to the clinic. I didn't want to leave yet but he said he would make me run another 10 laps again if I didn't go. "Love you so much, coach! You're the best!" I shouted sarcastically when the whole team cheered for me as I walked out of the restaurant. I gave Dwight one final look and he's not eveb looking at me. He was talking seriously to his friends. So I guess I don't really stand a chance on him.
