Chapter 18: What Do You Know?

Max's eyes locked onto Aurora's, and she felt a shiver run down her spine. There was something about him that seemed familiar, but she couldn't quite place it.
"I've been tracking the people who are after you," Max repeated, his voice low and serious. "I think I know what they want."
Isabella stepped forward, her eyes narrowing. "What do you know?" she asked, her voice cautious.
Max hesitated before responding. "I know that Ethan was involved in something big. Something that could put a lot of people in danger."
Aurora's mind was racing. What could Ethan have been involved in? And who were these people who were after them?
Suddenly, Max's phone buzzed with an incoming message. He glanced at the screen, his expression darkening.
"What is it?" Sophia asked, her voice low.
Max's eyes locked onto hers. "It's a message from an unknown number. It says... 'We know you're helping them. You'll pay for your betrayal.'"
Aurora's heart skipped a beat. Who was sending these messages? And what did they want with Max?
Max's eyes narrowed. "I think we're running out of time. We need to get out of here, now."
As they turned to leave, Aurora noticed something that made her blood run cold. A figure was watching them from the shadows, its eyes fixed on Max.
