Chapter 15: The chase

224 Words
Aurora's heart pounded in her chest as she ran alongside Isabella. They dodged through alleys and side streets, trying to lose their pursuers. Aurora's breath came in ragged gasps, and her legs ached from the exertion. Isabella suddenly stopped and pulled Aurora into a narrow alleyway. "Wait," she whispered, holding a finger to her lips. "Let's see if we lost them." Aurora listened intently, her ears straining to pick up any sound. The silence was oppressive, punctuated only by the distant hum of a car engine. After a few moments, Isabella nodded. "I think we're clear. Let's keep moving." They continued on, their footsteps echoing off the walls. Aurora's mind was racing with questions. Who was after them? And what did they want with Ethan? As they turned a corner, Aurora saw a figure waiting for them. It was Sophia, her eyes locked onto Isabella with a mixture of surprise and concern. "Aurora, what's going on?" Sophia asked, her voice low and urgent. "I saw you running and thought something was wrong." Aurora hesitated, unsure of how much to reveal. But something about Sophia's expression told her that she could trust her friend. "It's Ethan," Aurora said finally. "Isabella says he's in danger. And we're being followed." Sophia's eyes widened in understanding. "Let's get out of here and find a safe place to talk."
