CHAPTER TWO: Marcus White

900 Words
Luke stared at the 3inches tv in dismay and sympathy. He had just applied for a job in the company and got rejected for the umpteenth time. “ Your credentials are alright…. We just need someone with a similar job experience. My apologies. I wish you good luck on your next job search Mr Hayes”. From the COO- Marcus White. He came home looking devastated, it has always been like this but this time, he had hope and it was crushed. He stared at the moon and night sky, a single droplet of tear escaping his eyes, he looked at her and she consoled him...that Is his woman. Staring blankly at his business idea he wished to submit if he landed the job, he sighed. He had the idea but not the funds and no one was willing to listen. He remembered Vanessa had made him a custom blazer which cost her a fortune and he looked perfect in it. That was Vanessa….always making things perfect when it comes to him. He sighed tucking the suit away as the sight of it kinda reminds him of the failure he has become. Now sitting in their shabby sitting room with one worn out leather cushion, Luke sipped on the coffee Vanessa freshly brewed before leaving for work. The taste of it's sweetness mixing perfectly with bitterness and frustration. She was out there, working her ass off for a job that pays a penny and later on, she spends it on him. He was grateful, he knew it, deep down, he owes her a lot, his life, she was his everything and he isn’t trading her for anything. The victim of the freak murder was not someone he didn’t know, he met him once, the COO of the Frankenstein industries which he recently lost his chance. He died the night before, shot right in the forehead, In his own pool at about 7:30 pm. Something in him felt excitement over the news and he knew it was wrong. He stared hardly at the tv before finally turning it off, he stands and walks towards the kitchen area, his shirtless body exposing his muscles and perfect body; not too bulky and not too slim. Just perfect. His white skin had a few red spot from mosquito bites but wasn’t noticeable as the tattoo running down his spine took it’s shine. It was Vanessa’s favorite thing to do- tracing the tatts with her slender fingers. He opens the blinds, the sun hitting him, showcasing his striking visuals, his camo green eyes squints at the light of the sun.. He walks towards the kitchen, taking the last sip of coffee before settling the mug in the washer, he stared at the wrapped brownies with a sticker note on top, his eyes dancing with excitement and softness. -Make sure you finish this. And don’t be sad They lost, not you. Cheer up. I love you, now, tomorrow and always.- -V Luke smiled, his cheeks visibly pink, he’s in love with this woman. “Vanessa…” He purred slowly, voice dripping with raw emotions. He took a bite and quickly picked up the vacuum, Vanessa hates a dirty house, the least he could do is keeping it clean. Her heels made loud stomps against the sleek marble floor, the little stain on her white sleeves were noticeable, she only prayed it would be ignored. She let down her silky hair which isn't in a much better condition and nervously glanced around as she ran her frail fingers through her hair trying to smoothen it. She thought of saying hello to the others but noticed that everyone is probably tensed, with her legs together and her lips shut in a thin line, she recited a little prayer in her mind, having full hope that it would work this time. “Emerole Legrand”, the name was called out loud and the young man sitting next to her stood and went in for the interview. He looked nice, his dressing alone could land him the job, then she stared at herself, again not in a better condition, she didn’t even get to spray her cologne now she smells like perspiration not to talk about the rough hair and over sized heels. She cursed inwardly, the night before wasn’t such a good time to sulk about her parents negligence and get drunk now she might not even get a job because of that. She noticed a pair of eyes looking at her. It was a lady probably in her thirties and she wasn’t just looking, she was judging her entire appearance. “Rough morning…… I’m not always like this, you…you know. Uhhhhh, some dude spilled coffee on my shirt and I didn’t get a chance to clean it cause I was already running late cause I overslept last night, I was kinda drunk, I don’t want you thinking I overslept cause I am lazy I am usually a morning bird, so.” She blurted in one breath and all she got was an ‘okay’ from the lady with a stoic expression. The lady was called In and she left, leaving her and just a few others. She hasn’t noticed how much people have been interviewed. She straightened her shirt and hair trying to stay optimistic…I got this…… “Anastasia valentine, you are up next”…
