Broken Serenade

CHAPTER 3: Waves of new beginning

Selene went directly to her twin to tackle about the letter. She wants Serene to be ready. Ready to leave this place and ready for the truth.

She saw her sister standing in front of their father's casket. She was caressing the glass that serves as window to see the one inside of it. She was humming their favorite song that their father use to sing for them before bed time. It is Waves by Dean Lewis.

"Serene, let's talk for awhile." Selene said to get her twin's attention.

"Go on, I'll be here with your father." Mang Leo said.

They went outside and go few meters away Mang Leo's house,

"What are we going to talk about, Selene?" Serene asked.

"It's about Mom and Dada." Selene replied as she played with her fingertips, a sign that she's being anxious.

"What's with them?"

"Serene, Dada wrote us a letter 18 years ago, he said there that he's not our biological father, you see, he married our Mom and he still give his name to us. He loves us more than we could ever imagine."

Serene became shocked for a couple of seconds but she was able to gain her courage to speak again.

"For us nothing will change, never. He is more than our biological father. I don't want to have any father other than him." Serene said.

"One more thing, Dada said on the letter that if he will be gone on this world already, we have to move in the city."

"But why? We both love in here."

"It is our mom's words on dada, Serene. So we both need to move in the city."

"Can we really live by ourselves, Selene?"

"We can and we must. Don't you worry, you have me." Selene said before hugging her sister so tight.

They stay on that position a little longer before they decided to go back on Mang Leo's house.

Days went so fast, today, is the last day that they will see their father. It's time for him to send him at rest finally. A lot of people went on this day, to give a flower to Mang Oscario's grave. He will be bury six feet under, next to his wife's grave.

Some people are crying too, because even though they are not related to Mang Oscario, they had that connection with him, he helped those people who needed help before. He is known for being helpful to his fellow citizen.

Standing at the front, are his beloved daughters, they are both wearing black dresses. Serene is crying there and making loud sobs, while on the other hand, Selene is just standing next to her sister, crying without any single sound.

Selene still can't believe that their loving father already passed away. She wants revenge but she wants a real justice. However, she knew that doing punishment with her own hands will never approve by their father. She wants to know who is the one that made this to their father. She wants to put that person behind the bars.

People left one by one, and at last, it was just the twins in front of the grave that is already close. They are sitting so quiet on the grass facing their parent's grave. They need to say their goodbyes for now, because they need to go to the city already. Mang Leo was well informed about it too and they planned to sell their house which will be used as payment of their father's burial.

"Maybe they are both happy with each other now." Serene said out of nowhere.

"I think they really are." Selene replied shortly.

It took 2 hours before they had the courage to go and leave their parent's grave. It is heartbreaking but they need to do what their parents' wish.

They both knew that starting from this day, they have to face the new beginning of their lives. Without their parents but with themselves. New beginning is waving and new set of challenges is waving at them too.

After 5 hours of traveling, from buses to jeepneys and to tricycles, they finally reached Tondo, Manila. This is the only place that is not so far from their province.

The moment they step out of the tricycle, Selene suddenly felt someone was watching them. She look around but found no one looking at them. She just thought that it might be their father's presence, to know that he is just with them.

"Are you looking for somebody, Selene?" Serene asked when she noticed her sister.

"U-uhm, it's notice. Come on let's go and find a place for us." Selene replied

They asked people if where they can find a room to rent. Luckily, there is woman who lead them to a compound that has a room they can rent. They found out that most of the people on the compound are students who rents room. It's just that, it's summer vacation that's why some of there are not here.

"I'm so tired, Selene." Serene said who just came out from the bathroom and yawned.

"So do I. Let's take a sleep already. This day was too long for us."

"Good night, Selene."

"Good night, Serene."

They both sing their favorite song and it just took a couple of seconds before they are pulled by sleepiness.
