Chapter Six: The Mother's Secret

Kayden's POV:

I ran past our town and deeper into the woods that surrounded our pack. I howled in anger and in pain for my mother. I thought the moon goddess gave us mates to fill the void and complete us. Seeing my father's betrayal to my mother made me start to second guess everything my mother told me about mates. If the mate bond was so special how could my father even look at another woman let alone have s*x with one. I ran for what felt like hours before I returned back to our home. I went to the shed out back to shift since I knew I had a spare outfit in there. As I approached the shed I saw my brother standing there with my clothes waiting for me. I shifted back into my human form grabbing the clothes from his hands.

"How did you know I would be out here" I questioned.

He shook his head and turned to leave "I told you to knock before entering" he hissed as he walked away.

I clinched my jaw and ran up to him grabbing him by his collar. "Don't tell me you knew about this Kameron".

He laughed coldly "Honestly brother I don't know why father is letting blind fool like you become Alpha. Of course I've known about father's affairs. I've known for many years. I'm not blind and lost in some moon goddess fantasy world that mother has led you to believe in."

He grunted pulling away from me and went into the house. How could my brother know about this and at least not inform our mother. I sighed softly before heading into the house and towards my room. As I passed my mother's sewing room I heard her ask for me to please come to her.

"Yes mother?" I responded.

"Is there something you wish to tell me child. I heard you leave the property. What troubles you tonight?" she cooed.

"It's nothing you want to hear about mother. I promise" shaking my head.

"Just tell me" she sighed.

"I..I..I saw father with another woman in his office" I studdered.

"I know child" she whispered.

"You know?" I stared at my mother.

"Yes, I've known for sometime long before you were born" she sighed.

"Then why did you stay with him?" I asked.

"Because he's my mate and it's my job as Luna. I do not run from my responsibilities to this pack. What your father does hurt me but I've learned to numb myself to his actions for the sake of the pack and you boys" she grabbed my hand.

"I'm sorry mom" I squeezed her hand softly.

My mother pulled me into a hug and kissed my forehead before releasing me. I wished her a goodnight before heading to my room. I laid in bed looking at the ceiling as my mother's words swirled in my head with images of Alayne. I don't know why I had this attraction to her but I was going to find out why for both of our sakes.
