Gossen didn’t move. He felt overwhelmed by the strong and powerful aura that the woman exuded.
“On behalf of the Carole Tribe, I, Madeline, thank you for your help, humans!” The woman examined Alan’s face for a moment before restraining her suppressive aura and nodded in gratitude to him.
As her voice trailed off, she raised her vine-like wand that had a green crystal gem embedded on it and rested it on Alan’s forehead.
Gossen became alarmed at once and immediately reached out for his giant sword on his back as white light flashed across his eyes.
“Ser Gossen, I’m fine!” Alan’s voice sounded out. His head was lifted as he remained unmoving, and a beam of vibrant green light rippled from his body. All the flora and fauna that the green light touched began growing at a speed that was visible to the n***d eye. Colorful flowers blossomed one after another.
Alan was stunned speechless. He could feel strange energy coursing through his body, which felt cooling and extremely comfortable. What surprised him more was that he found his vision changing right before his eyes as the energy spread to his mind.
Everything he saw – flowers, grass, trees, streams, waterfall, tall mountains, giant stones – seemed to come alive.
He could clearly feel the happiness of a flower in its full blossom and the calmness of a tree as it swayed leisurely in the wind.
He could see every detail of a bee’s flapping wings a hundred meters away as well as a drop of water striking the stone and splattering into thousands of tiny droplets flying in different directions.
After a long time, when Alan finally gathered his wits together, he found that the wand against his forehead was already gone, and the pale green light emitting from his forehead disappeared as well.
“Your Highness, are you alright?” Gossen asked nervously from behind Alan. If Alan hadn’t stopped him just now, he would have unsheathed his sword and attacked.
“Yes, couldn’t be better!” Alan replied, pleasantly surprised. He felt like he had gained a little something. Whether it was his sight or perception, everything seemed renewed.
It was like a blind man who had never seen the light suddenly regained his vision. It was completely inconceivable!
What the excited prince didn’t notice was the hint of surprise that flashed through Madeline’s eyes.
“Hey buddy, hurry up and thank my mother. I didn’t expect you to have such good fortune, you lucky fellow!” Belinda patted him lightly with a mix of annoyance and hilarity as she looked at Alan giggling to himself like an i***t.
“Thank you for your blessing, beautiful Lady Madeline!” Alan came to his senses and got his overwhelming joy under control before expressing his gratitude toward Madeline.
“You don’t need to thank me. It’s all from the hand of the God of Nature!” Madeline responded as she gave Alan a meaningful look.
“Mother, can we invite him to our home?” Belinda looked at her mother expectantly.
Despite her pleading stance, Madeline shook her head gently and rejected her proposal. “Although he is blessed by the God of Nature, we can’t bring him home. We, the elves, have long declared solitude away from the world. I’m sorry, Belinda, I can’t risk exposing our people.”
Belinda’s shoulders slumped in disappointment. However, she had no choice but to nod unhappily upon seeing the unyielding look in her mother’s eyes.
“Alan, we’ll be going home now. Thank you for sending us back. Let me know what you want in return. I’ll do everything I can to help you,” Belinda whispered to Alan.
Alan had wanted to refuse her offer, but a thought came to his mind. “I do have something urgent that I need to deal with. My city is running out of food. Do you have extra grain that you could sell to me?”
Belinda smiled bitterly. “I’m sorry, but I can’t help you with that. We don’t harvest grain.”
Alan forced out a smile despite his disappointment. “All right then, that’s all there is from me. Remember to keep a close eye on that little glutton in case she gets abducted again. You might not meet someone as kind as me the next time.”
He shot Betty a teasing look as he joked.
Belinda nodded. Seeing her mother mount the bird of light, she turned around and looked at Alan again, suddenly unwilling to leave. Eventually, she gritted her teeth and said, “Wait here for a moment. I want to give you a little something.”
With that, she hopped onto the bird of light behind Madeline and disappeared into the horizon along with the other elves.
Alan stared in the direction where they disappeared, lost in his own thoughts. Somehow, he felt a deep emptiness in his heart as he sighed inwardly.
Gossen heaved a silent sigh of relief as he saw that Alan seemed alright. In his heart, however, he knew that they just had a close shave with danger. The pressure he felt from the female elf just now was so overwhelming, he was almost certain that she was well on the way to attaining the legendary realm.
That was a realm that only saints could attain!
A hint of yearning and desire flashed through Gossen’s eyes. He wondered when he would be able to reach that saintly realm himself.
As Gossen was deep in his thoughts, Alan continued testing out his new abilities. He found that apart from his perception becoming keener, he was able to feel things that he couldn’t in the past, such as emotions!
He crouched down and gently stroked a white flower that stood by his feet. Closing his eyes and feeling every detail, he found that he could indeed sense a very subtle emotion rippling from the flower through his hand to his mind.
It was the emotion of joy!
But he seemed to only be capable of conveying that subtle ripple of emotion, and not anything more than that.
Right after that, he found a giant tree reaching toward the sky, put his palm against the trunk and pricked up his senses.
This time, he sensed a gentle and friendly emotion that was conveyed more clearly than before. However, he was still unable to accurately make out any information, as if he were an infant who hadn’t learned how to talk yet.
Could this be the same ability to communicate with plants that Belinda possessed?
“Could this mean that I have the same talent as the elves?” Alan could hardly suppress the excitement in his heart at the thought.
Just as Alan was eagerly putting his abilities to the test, a familiar black dot reappeared in the sky. It was the bird of light turning back.
It flew at the speed of light and landed right in front of them in a split second.
Belinda dismounted from the bird of light and felt happiness surging in her heart when she saw Alan clearly pleasantly surprised to see her back.
“Here you go!” She carefully took out a delicate, crystal bottle which was half-filled with pale green liquid.
Alan took it over and glanced at it but did not manage to figure anything out. He lifted his eyes to shoot a puzzled look at Belinda, who simply smiled at him and remained silent about what it was.
Alan observed it more closely and pulled the cork from the bottle, unable to suppress his curiosity any further. Belinda, on the other hand, did not expect Alan to open the bottle. She cried out in surprise, snatched the bottle back and pushed the cork back to seal the bottle again at once.
