Chapter 4

2032 Words
My breath hitched and I couldn't breathe. I fell to the floor and screamed. "I should have been here!" I growled. Tristan knelt down in front of me, "Come on sweetheart. Calm down." He tried soothing. My head snapped up, I glared at him, my eyes were burning and I knew there were red. I knew the symptoms of changing and I didn't have long before it happened. "You need to get out of here, now!" I growled viscously. He shook his head and stayed put. "Please, Uncle Tristan. I'm losing control." I begged. I haven't lost control like this since I left. But after everything I've been through and everything I've put everyone through, the guilt and hurt are too much. I growled and shoved at him. He scrambled backwards, stood up and looked down at me. "I love you, Amaris." He whispered before shutting the door behind him. I felt the tears running down my face before I blacked out. Chapter 6 I woke up with a pounding headache. I kept my eyes shut and groaned. I haven't lost control like that in 2 years. But my goddess, am I paying for it right now. If I lay here and pretend it didn't happen, I don't have to face the mess I have made. A knock on the door interrupted my pretending. I groaned, pulling myself up then glanced around the room. f**k my life, I've completely destroyed the room. I slowly went down the stairs, careful not to make too much noise. My head can't handle the steps. I halted at the bottom of the stairs and sniffed the air. I caught the scent of my uncle, auntie, Lucas and some familiar scent. I recognised the scent, it's Lucas's mate. I met him vaguely when Lucas found him. Well, let's get this over with. I opened the kitchen door and stood awkwardly in the doorway. They all stared at me, probably trying to decipher what mood I was in. In the past when I have lost control, I never know what mood I'm going to be in when I have gained control back. "Hi" I timidly greeted. My auntie stood up and looked at Tristan. " I know you said to give her space and not crowd her but I have missed her." She ranted before coming towards me. She stood in front of me and looked at me lovingly. "You have grown into such a beautiful woman." She cooed. I giggled, "I missed you too, Georgie." I pulled her against me and wrapped my arms around her. She sniffled and squeezed me. Tristan laughed, coming over to us. "Let her breathe, Hun." He chuckled. She moved away and smiled brightly at me. "How are you doing after yesterday?" Tristan questioned. I awkwardly pulled at my jeans, I haven't been changed yet. I need a shower and some fresh clothes. "What's up?" He asked, looking puzzled. "Um, I kinda destroyed the bedroom," I muttered, staring at the floor. Tristan and Georgie laughed, shaking their heads. "Don't worry about it. We can fit it." They assured. They left the kitchen, leaving just me, Lucas and his mate, who I think is called Elijah. Lucas stayed sat at the table, glaring at the fruit bowl. I bit back a giggle and coughed. "Hi, I don't know if you remember me but I'm Elijah." He spoke as he stood up and came over to me. I nodded my head, "Yes, I remember you. Nice to see you again." I smiled. He returned the gesture then glanced at Lucas. "I'll leave you two alone." He said shooting daggers at Lucas. I gave him an awkward smile, he touched my shoulder, giving me a small smile before leaving the room. Well, this isn't awkward at all. I guess I'm going to have to make the first more. I slowly wandered over to Lucas. As I reached the table, he startled me by throwing his arms around my waist and pulling me into him. I immediately responded, crushing myself against him. I have missed him so much! "I'm so, so sorry!" I sobbed. He stood up and brought me into his chest. "No. I'm sorry." He whispered. I glanced up at him, "I'm sorry I missed your wedding." I remarked wistfully. He shook his head, "I knew you wouldn't come. If I could have postponed, I would have." He spoke softly. "I didn't see the message, Luc. If I had known, I would have been there." I whispered. He pulled me against him and enveloped his arms around me, stroking my hair. "Can you do me a favour?" He asked. "Sure," I muttered. "Take your necklace off for a few minutes." He answered. I panicked and pulled away. "Why?" I asked worriedly. "Because my wolf can't sense yours and it's driving him mad. We're family, Amaris. He's just concerned." He explained sadly. I guess that makes sense. But I don't think I can... If I do and Rhydian is nearby, he'll sense me and that'll be it. "Where's Rhydian?" I asked. "He's out on a hunt, why?" He looked at me confused. "No reason," I dismissed him. I took a shaky breath and slowly removed the necklace. I held the necklace tight in my hand and forced a smile. Lucas wrapped his arms around me and breathed heavily. "Thank you." He whispered and planted a gentle kiss on my forehead. "You can put it back on now." He smiled. His eyes fogged over, he was getting a mindlink. I fastened my necklace and waited for Lucas to finish. "Right, Alpha Rhydian needs me so I'll catch up with you soon, ok?" He smiled. "I need to know who this Alpha Rhydian is." I deadpanned, glaring at him. He rolled his eyes and nodded. "Meet us in the packhouse in an hour and we will tell you everything." He sighed. I nodded and hugged him again. "I hope you forgive me for leaving," I whispered. He gave me a quick hug, "If you forgive me for acting like a spoilt pup." He chuckled. "Deal," I smirked. He went towards the door and turned his head to me, "I am soo glad you're back." He gushed. I nodded and gave him a small smile, "Me too," I whispered, "I just wish I come back earlier." "He loved you, Amaris. Just remember that." He announced then left the room. I took a deep breath and leaned against the kitchen counter. I sighed exhaustdly and hung my head back. This hour is going to drag, I need answers. I huffed and headed to the bedroom. I opened the door and stepped inside. I took one look at the room and walked out. Nope, I'm not dealing with that now. I groaned and went in search for the bathroom. I opened the first door to my right and peeked in, another bedroom. I went along the corridor and opened the door at the end. This should be a bathroom. I mean, how many rooms does this house have?! I walked into a black and white bathroom. It was stunning. There was a walk in shower on the right, a double sink and mirror opposite with a huge corner bath next to it. I walked over to the shower and turned it on. On the back wall there was a toilet, a long shelving unit on the wall full of all different kinds of bathroom products. A little set of black marble drawers with some other products with a hanging towel rack mounted on the wall next to it. My dad definitely made this house, amazing! I took a deep breath. I miss you, dad. Chapter 7 'We'll be meeting Rhydian and Lucas soon. Make sure you keep calm.' I reminded Aurora. 'I will be. He still could be our true mate.' She claimed. 'You keep calm.' She retorted. 'No, I'm not doing this.' I argued. 'If he wasn't our true mate. He would know about the potion and he would be showing signs that he's our mate.' She stressed. I know this is hard for her too. I had to watch my wolf slowly deteriorate when we were tricked. It took her months to get back to normal. This time we need to be extra careful. I headed into the bedroom after my shower, looking for my suitcase. I hope Uncle Tristan left it here. I glanced around the messy room and saw my suitcase in shreds... Along with all my clothes. I sighed and threw my hands up, what am I supposed to do now? I headed downstairs in search of my phone. I know it wasn't in the kitchen, I would have noticed it. Maybe the living room? I went into the living room, I glanced around the room and saw my phone and bag on the table. At least I didn't break any of these. I sighed and picked my phone up. I scrolled through my contacts until I reached Ria's number and pressed the call button. I sat on the sofa while I waited for Ria to answer. "Oh my god, Amaris! Are you ok? I heard about yesterday when you got here? I've been trying to see you but Lucas said you needed space. Have you sorted things with Lucas?" She ranted on the other side. "Woah, chill." I laughed. "First thing, I need your help. I don't have any clothes." I admitted. She chuckled, "Ok, I'll sort something for you. Where are you?" "Um, actually I have no idea." I bleated. "I'll ask Lucas, don't worry." She uttered. "Thank you, I'll see you soon." I hung up the phone and dropped it next to me on the sofa. I flopped backwards and glanced around the room. On the wall above a stone fireplace hung a photo of me and my dad when I was younger. I stood up and went towards the photo and stared at it. My 16th birthday party, we had that photo taken. It was just before I met my so-called mate. But that's a story for another time. The doorbell rang and I hurriedly made my way to the door. I stopped dead in my tracks as I reached the door, the scent hit me like a ton of bricks. It wasn't Ria stood outside, it was Rhydian. I quickly held my hand up, feeling for my necklace. I breathed out a sigh of relief and opened the door. "Hi, ar-" He stopped as he eyed me up and down. I suddenly remembered I was wearing nothing but a towel. I was overwhelmed by the close proximity of us. I was frozen to the spot and he was still eying me up and down. "Um, eyes... eyes up... here." I spluttered. He jumped slightly and coughed. "Sorry." He murmured. He looked up and his eyes locked with mine. We stood there, staring into each other's eyes. It was like I was locked in a trance, I couldn't look away. Even though these are signs of finding your mate, I've been through this before. It's also an effect from the potion. I admit, it feels pretty damn good. But I'm not falling for it... Not again. I growled and stepped away. Rhydian shook his head and looked confused. Which confused me even more. "Why are you here?" I asked, crossing my arms over my chest. "Um, I can't remember." He replied, honestly. I rolled my eyes at him, he just stayed put. Didn't speak or move. "Are you coming or going?" I questioned, sarcastically. "Coming?" He squeaked. 1 I rolled my eyes and shut the door on him. I fell back against the door and closed my eyes, taking a deep breath. I flinched as the door vibrated against my back as someone knocked. I groaned and swung the door open, "What?" I snapped. Ria backed away a little and held her hands up defensively, "Don't eat me." She mocked. I rolled my eyes and giggled. Behind her in the distance, I could see Rhydian stood next to a tree watching us. I rolled my eyes again and dragged Ria inside.
