I awoke to an alarm. I swiped my hand around to try and quiet the noise invading my head to no avail, only hitting something hard. Wiping my eyes I peeled myself off of my textbook, stuck to it with drool running down my cheek. I wiped off my face with my arm and remembered what happened the night before. I must’ve fallen asleep at my desk trying to study for chem.
The alarm stopped and I turned around and remembered the second part of why I was sitting at the desk. Carter stretched, my comforter sliding down to sit on his lap reminding me of his nakedness. The odd thing, however, is that the scratches on his arms from the night before have dissipated. As if they never existed at all. He ran a hand through his dark hair and looked over at me, giving me a lazy smile.
He stood up and my eyes widened at the length that popped out from the comforter. I’ve seen a p***s before, of course I have. In movies and in real life. I wasn’t a Virgin Mary, but the only person I’ve ever been with is Tyler and he was nothing compared to that. My throat went dry and my heart started racing. I could not tear my eyes away. Stop. Staring. Mentally, I yelled at myself but I could not stop. I felt butterflies erupt in my stomach and moisture pool between my thighs. I raked my eyes upward to look at Carter’s face and his eyes had turned from beautiful golden to swirling pools of inky black.
He took a step towards me. And another. Slowly, the way a lion does when they are stalking their prey. I could barely hold down my excitement as he inches towards me. I stood up cautiously realizing the look in his eye was lust, pure lust and I wondered if he seen the same thing in me. In front of me now, he gently ran the fingertips of his hands up my arm leaving chills in its wake. I reached my hand up and put it flat on his chest, feeling his heart thrum. It was beating fast, too. I looked up into his eyes and he hooked his other hand around my back, playing with my hair as his erection poked at my belly. He leaned down to kiss me and I knew that this time, I was going to give in. I was not strong enough to stay away from him. Whatever hold that he had on me, I knew I could not resist. For the first time in awhile my mind was silent and I relished in the freedom of not being contained to the constant scratching and tugging and clawing.
I reached up to touch the stubble that appeared on his face but half an instant before my hand made contact, he was gone. All that was left in his wake was an open window and the cell phone he left on my bed. How can someone even move that fast?
“Kenzie, honey?” My mom opened the door, “Good! I thought I heard you awake. I made breakfast downstairs. Get ready and come down.” She clicked the door shut. Did he know she was coming? Yeah, right. Superhuman hearing is only for Superman himself. I pushed the thought out of mind and walked to my closet. I grabbed a pair of shorts that hugged my body and a flowy, silk, emerald green tank top, my chucks and walked into the kitchen.
“Kenzie, your birthday is barely a month away.” Mom smiled at me while handing me a plate piled with French toast and bacon.
“Yeah? I guess it is.” I replied stuffing a piece in my mouth. “Your dad and I… well… we have something we need to share with you.”
Ping!
My phone went off and I picked it up. Ugh! She’s going to kill me.
“I’m so sorry, mom! I have to go. I was supposed to meet the team this morning to vote on the new cheer captain and I completely forgot. Marcy is going to kill me.” I shoved another bite in my mouth. Grabbed my bacon and ran out of the house. My mom could wait, she had to wait. Marcy was much scarier than mom in this moment. All members had to be present to vote on a new captain and Marcy was a shoe in this year. Her sister had taken the team to Nationals last year and everyone expected the same from her. If I wasn’t there to vote, she would skin me.
I parked my car and basically sprinted to the gym. Flinging open the door I ran into a hard, broad chest. His hand immediately went to my waist to keep me from falling. I steadied myself against him and I knew who it was before I even met his eyes. Carter. He did something to me. The tugging in my brain stopped when he was near. I hated it but I couldn’t help it.
“I’m sorry,” I apologized pulling myself away.
“It’s okay, Kenzie.” I reached into my back pocket and handed him the phone he had forgotten on my bed this morning.
“I thought you’d be missing this.”
“Thank you. Look,” he paused briefly to lift my chin so that I was looking into his eyes, “I know you have questions. Probably a lot of them.”
“Yes” I confirmed.
“I promise you that I will explain everything. Give me your phone.” I did what he said without thinking and after a second, he gave it back. “Call or text me whenever you have time. Seriously, ANY time. And I will come to you and tell you everything.” I nodded and he was gone. I stood there for a second to catch my breath and walked into the gym.
As expected, everyone voted for Marcy and she was thrilled. And as much as I wasn’t excited to a year under dictator Marcy, I was genuinely happy for her. She DID deserve this, her whole life was the cheer squad and while I did love cheering I didn’t take it as seriously as she did.
I was sitting in the middle of my chemistry class when I got the message to go to the office. Thankfully, I had already finished my test. I handed it to Mr. Page on my way out of the classroom and made my way to the office. I knocked on the door and was quickly waved in by the lovely, gray haired assistant.
“Principal Brooks is waiting for you, dear.” I walked over to the wooden door and knocked twice before opening it and stepping inside.
Principle Brooks was a younger man, probably the same age as my own parents or maybe even a little younger. He was short and slender and wore a beard and mustache unlike my own dad. He gestured for me to sit on the other side of his large desk and I did.
“Ms. Tatum. Thank you for joining me.”
“Of course, Mr. Brooks. What can I do for you?”
“Well, over the summer the school got new computer systems. As you probably know the ones we had last year were ancient and I finally got the school board to approve of new ones. Anyway, during the transfer of data a lot of things were lost. Among these items are your personal records that need to be on file here at the school.”
“My personal records?” I asked. Panic beginning to rise in my throat. Did this mean my grades? My GPA? My credits? Would I have to start over? My 4.0 GPA ruined because of a glitch?
“Thankfully,” he began, as if he could read my mind, “we require all teachers to keep paper records of all grades so none of that is effected. It’s just your personal things. You birth certificate, social security card, and we need an emergency contact on file for you. We didn’t realize we didn’t have this information until you took your sick day last week.”
“I see. That shouldn’t be an issue, sir. I’ll ask my mom tonight and will get it in on Monday.”
“Thank you for being hasty, Ms. Tatum. Time is of the essence as we were supposed to have it before classes started. You may go back to class. Well, I guess classes are almost over for the day if you just want to head out.”
“Thank you, sir. Have a nice weekend.” I walked out. How strange. I wonder if Taylor or Tyler had their personal items also missing in the system. Probably not. Their mom was part of the school board and I was certain that if she knew, someone’s head would roll.
Taylor, Tyler and I had plans after school today since it was Friday so I walked around the school grounds waiting for the bell to ring. Deciding it was the perfect time to call my mom and ask her about the paperwork. After a few rings an assistant answered and told me that my mom was with a patient and that they would have her call me back later.
Distantly, I heard the bell ring and I waited, leaning up against my car, for Tyler and Taylor to make their way over to me. What I didn’t expect, however, was for Carter to be with them. This. This can not be good.
