“Done,” John replied for him. Venkat nodded, eyes burning again but now with wonder. Awe. Could it really be true? “And he can drink from anyone?” John asked. “Absolutely. If you’re nervous about mortals, bring one here, we’ll do it again,” Dr. Greg said. “I think your first volunteers will be more of a fae buffet. At least three different kinds.” John grinned. Venkat’s face hurt, he was smiling so hard. A tear slipped down his cheek, and he used his electroded hand to wipe it away impatiently. “I can’t believe it.” Dr. Greg reached out and patted Vee’s shoulder in a gentle, almost fatherly way. “Come to Rebecca’s book club. We’ll get you set up with a real community. And, if you feel ready, we can get you a therapist to help you process—all this. I don’t recommend doing it alone.”
