Chapter 8: Acceptance

952 Words
Evelyn I hear thunderstorms rage and feel cold wind  touch my skin. I wake up. I'm in a giant canopy bed with drapes carried by the wind. I get up to close huge balcony doors. As I get there I am  smitten by the full moon. It is shining at it's full force. It's so captivating. Calling. Awakening. I suddenly wake up. The moon is indeed full and bright, casting light on me. Tonight the sky is so clear unlike other nights when it was cloudy and snowing.  I try to fall back to sleep but ineffective. I believe even a couple of hours passed. Finally I get up. My whole body is stiff and I am getting anoyed by this vain attempts to sleep.  I get out to the hallway. The giant stairway in the middle divides to two different sides, leading in opposite directions. I never was anywere beside the left part of the ground floor. Right on this level, is a huge dining room, the receiving room and Theo's office, according to Dianna. I'm torn between exploring this place and staying safe in my part of the house, After Dianna's scolding I was determined to stay away from provocations and arguments with Theo. Well to hell with that. He's probably sleeping anyway.  I take the stairs and turn right, 'cause it was more illuminated from the moon. I get to wide and incredibly long corridor. It has no furniture or decorations. Only many doors with no hint what's behind them. I get further in. It's so quiet here I can almost hear my own breathing. Suddenly third door from me open and I imediatley recognize the man that got out. "What are you doing here?" My heart skips a beat. "You said I can roam around.." I say quietly. "At this hour?" he asks suspiciously. "I...I couldn't sleep." He just stands there, gazing at me. I get this strange uncomfortable feeling. Why doesn't he say something. I anticipate a little more but the discomfort increases. "I'll go now.." I turn around and hurry back to my place. *** It's been two days now and something inside me is making me restless. I can't take this turmoil anymore. I'm just sitting here, waiting for the roads to clear. Yes, I'll be heading home, I'll get what I want. But it doesn't make any sense. Why was I brought here in the first place. Dianna won't talk to me. Theodore is the only one who I can ask. Yet we never cross pats anymore. I shouldn't have fight him at first place. Should've talk to him. Make him tell me what am I doing here... Oh yea, don't forget the treatment he gave me. And the lies! God, does he really think I'm that liable? There's no way I could've act reasonable to that. With everything else that has happened... OK, I have to ask him. I can't think about this anymore, I need answers. Go Evie, you can do this. I take deep breath and head to his office. I don't really want to face him, yet again need to know the background to all of this. I knock on the door. For a moment there is no reply. I think of wether to knock again but then I hear it. "Come in." I slowly open the door, not sure what to see inside. I spot him right away. He is sitting on the right by a large work desk, working on something on his laptop. "I don't have time to argue." he says cold, concentrating on his work. I roll my eyes. "Me neither...Can I ask you something?" He finally looks up to me. "You already have." Does he have to be so difficult? "Why do you hate my father?" I spit it out. He looks at me for a while.  "He killed my parents." his eyes got darker. "Why would he ever.." "Like that madman needed any reason." "You can't talk about my father like that!" "Everyone knows about that episode." "What episode?" I frown. "When he got mad. Did the massacre." "Stop lying! My father was not crazy!" "Guess you didn't know your father at all." What?!  "I knew him enough to now when someone is trying to slander him! Someone who is inventing some kind of fairy tales!" "You think I'm lying?" he suddenly gets up from his chair: "That I'm inventing some stories?!"  He says through his teeth, looking at me with a scowl. His muscles suddenly start to bulk up, his shoulders to widen. He takes a step towards me, still slowly getting more muscular and higher. His face starts to slightly deform with fangs flashing from his mouth as he continues to come closer to me. "Maybe I should show you again, this time properly. Maybe you'll believe your eyes this time." he says with sinister voice.  This can't be posible. My eyes are wide open and I just stare at that scene. His body is slowly changing and turning into something you can only see on the movies. I'm completely dazed and shocked. I can't deny it anymore. I'm completely conscious and aware now. He didn't lie. This is...Real. I don't know when he stopped, I just saw his hand reaching for me. I twitch. "I'm sorry." he whispers with slight remorse in his eyes. I stand there like that for another moment then almost hysterically open the door and storm out. I stop after the first corner, feeling weak. Just then I feel tears fall on my chest. I didn't realise I was crying. My legs are numb and I slide down a wall on the floor, finally accepting the truth.
