Evelyn
The days went by fast. It was sunny outside and the snow was slowly melting. On The Andreas day Dianna made five apple and lemon pies to bring to the festive and made Theodore help her take them and drive her to the Glade.
I was all alone in this gigantic castle for about two hours, waiting for everyone to come here. And, honestly, I got an uneasy feeling about this place. All of a sudden it felt too big and too empty. Thoughts about what all happened lately started creeping in my mind no matter how hard I tried to drive them away. Today was not a day to deal with that. I will be gone soon, finally to take some action instead of overthinking analyzing.
"Hello, we're here!" Yells Kira from the entrance door.
Finally!
"Ready to party?" She asks as we meet at the corridor, full of energy as always.
"You finally get to meet Kane, my brother…Evelyn.."
"Nice to meet you."
We shake hands, a little awkwardly as he has hands full with bags.
He was taller then me but not as tall as Theodore. He has dark hair and brown eyes but him and Kira don't look so much alike. Except from when they smile. They have the same wide and bright smile.
We go to the kitchen, were Kira takes out a big bottle of yellowish liquor.
"The boys were arguing for silver tequila but the gold is gold." She says with a smug smile.
"Girls drink." Teases Kane.
Theodore takes some bowls and heads to the living room with some snacks.
"Hey, where's cinnamon?"
"Here… Give me vodka."
"Gin.."
I'm watching the siblings exchange the bottles of liquors… A lot of bottles. There's no way we're going to drink all that.
Theodore comes back and starts taking the glasses... Four big ones and four of those for shots.
"Ev honey take the cinnamon and put it on this little plate.. And you can take it after the boys." Says Kira cutting the oranges.
After a while we are in the living room, every glass filled with some tipe of drink.
Rum, gin.. Now vodka. Jeez! I think this one is the worst of them. It tastes like nothing, just burning your mouth and all your insides all the way to your stomach.
"You go girl!" Kira is cheering me up.
"This is disgusting. Why do people drink at all."I say frowning.
"To awake the party animal."
"You'll like this one." Theodore takes one of the glasses, and pours in a bit of every drink I tried. He then adds lime juice and cola.
"Here. Try." He handles me the glass.
I take a sip, doubting.
But it actually doesn't taste that bad. The mixture of cola and juice is taking over and you can taste the sharp taste of alchohol in the background.
"Not bad."
"But slow down kiddo, you can't keep up with us." Says Kane with serious voice.
"I'm not that young."
"How old are you?"
"Kane! You don't ask women that!"Criticized Kira her brother.
"Twenty four."
"Two years is still younger." Concludes Kane.
"Which means I'm the boss around here since that's how much older I am from you." Theodore says in showing of manner.
"Yes Alpha!" Says Kane like a soldier which makes Theodore hit him with a cushion.
"That remind me, twenty two kids are coming on Sunday. Everything is ready."
"That's quite more than last year. You're surpassing yourself Kane."
"It's not me. The kids want to see the master T in action."
"Kane leads an martial arts school. Theodore was it's founder when he left to Beron to college. And it's becoming a tradition for them to bring the kids here for the schools anniversary." Kira answers my silent question.
"Wow! That's amazing. Where did you learn martial arts?"
Theodore and Kane exchange looks. Finally Theodore speaks.
"I was a troublesome kid.. So Nanna made me do all kind of sports to realise excess energy. And Kane is my partner in crime." Theodore patted Kane on the shoulder and he then returned with fist bump.
I could see in the way they treat each other that they were like real brothers. How lucky the are not to be alone in the world.
"And I am a third wheel as always." Complains Kira.
"Jealousy doesn't suite yous sis."
Kira sticks out her tongue to Kane.
"And you Evelyn, did you go to college?"
"I studied genetics in England."
"That's probably why you had such a hard time believing in..."
"Yes. Such DNA doesn't exist."
"In the books."
"Enough talking. You know what time it is. Tequila!" Kira shouts excited, the last word almost singing.
She puts some cinnamon on orange wedge and handles it to me, along with a small glass of tequila.
"First you lick the cinnamon from the orange. Then you drink tequila. And then you bite into orange."
"C'mon Kira, tequila is drank on it's own!"
"Shush! Ok Ev, on thee. One, two, three!"
I do all exactly as she said, following after her.
One.
Two.
Three.
This actually tastes good. The cinnamon and orange took over the tequila and made all of this taste like some kind of juice.
"Good?" Kira looks at me, in anticipation.
"Good." I reply in approval.
