she entered the building and remembered the first day she was introduced as the executive manager together with kelvin, everyone was so happy but today she is about to do something which she might regret later.

she entered her office which was located on the 9th floor she had her office custom decorated since she wanted specific items put in a certain place. She wanted her walls painted pink and cream she wanted a mahogany table and some sculptures she bought in Egypt placed on her table she sat at her table and felt she needed something strong though it was afternoon already.

she picked up her office phone and dialed her assistant's number.

''Sandy bring me a cup of coffee''

''ye maam''

after a few minutes, she walked in holding a cup of coffee

''Clear my schedule today please''

Sandy left the office and Soledad go to work, she needed to know exactly what Amos does in the company and find any loopholes he has. she needed to do this.

Two weeks had passed and Soledad could not find anything concrete to use against Amos. Throughout the two weeks, she had avoided meeting kelvin who had tried all he could to meet her. he did not show up to their mansion because he was scared Soledad's dad had learned what he had done to their daughter and he would be furious.

She has been meeting eve who surprisingly was calm compared to the wild nature she knew something was wrong with her friend. She needed to come up with a plan and fast.

She had sent her assistant to meet Amos' assistant in the pretense that she wanted to give her some documents and asked her assistant to befriend her and not to tell anyone.

She did not have a plan that day but this Tuesday evening she had a plan.

''Sandy...'' she does not like using her phone to call her assistant most of the time since she says it's a waste of time and it is not like she is blocks away.

sandy came rushing in.

''Yes, ma'am'' sandy always admires her boss, and if not once she has pretended to be her and sat in her boss's office chair when Soledad was not in the office.

''I want you to run an errand for me and this one is quite different from the usual ones'' Soledad leaned forward staring at her.

''Okay?'' sandy has this girlish attitude and she just smiled waiting for more instructions.

''You remember Amos? I asked you to meet with her assistant''

To be honest, sandy knows Amos she has seen him in the office building so many times and she thinks he might be one of the most eligible bachelors in the whole of Nairobi city.

''Mmm,'' she nodded her head.

''Okay I want you to meet with his assistant again you made contact with her and you guys also went for drinks right?'' she noded

''Okay, I want you to invite her out tonight first thing make sure she knows where her boss is second I want you to keep an eye on her and make sure you are with her it's very important I am told she likes working overtime going back to the office and all that bullshit.

''What do you want to do maam?'' asked sandy.

''Don't ask questions sandy I will pay you overtime''

She dismissed her and time flew, in no time her assistant gave her a signal that she was leaving and they were going together. soledad picked up her bag and walked towards the parking lot on her way out she spotted the two men entering the building, perfect time for her. Amos and kelvin were here. she hurried and hid in a corner until the two men disappeared she got into her car and drove to the ABC building where their other offices were located.

She entered the building and it was quiet as usual. She knew no one would suspect her since some workers knew who she was and they assumed she was just doing her business. She went direct to his office and used the key sandy had stolen from Amoses assistant, she entered the office and she could tell this man has not been in the office for several days. There was a bag of chips on the floor an open soda bottle and there was dust on the table and his leather chair.

Jesus, what does his assistant do?

She surveyed the office before leaning on his desk and pulling a drawer open a stack of papers fell and she scrubbed to pick them up, she placed them on the table and began looking at them keenly most of the papers she had seen already she started opening another drawer when she heard some noise coming from outside. She listened keenly but could not place that voice suddenly she heard keys rumbling on the door and froze.

She spotted an old wardrobe where Amos places his ties and she stuck in back the pile of papers and hid before the door came flying open at first she could not make out the figures but they came clear when Amos closed the door and the reflection was gone.

Good lord, am I dreaming?

Her mother stood in the middle of the room holding a favouriteLuissVuitton bag.

''You are taking so long Amos, why the hell are you taking so long did I give you this job and this big ass office for you to delay my plans?''

wait...what? job? office? what is this I am hearing right now? Soledad felt weak from where she was standing suddenly it was so hot in there that she felt like she was going to faint her throat became so dry that she knew she would do anything to get a drop of water suddenly Amos moved blocking the view to her mum.

''Listen, ma lady, you don't get to raise your voice on me, remember I go down we go down together.''

what does he mean by that?

''I will leave you to it you better hurry the f**k up I am losing my patience''

Soledad's mum moved closer to Amos and she planted a kiss on his lips.

Soledad became dizzy and everything began spinning around her, she busted out of the wardrobe and they were long gone. This can't be real.

She held he stomach as she sat down on the floor so surprised that she did not see her assistant walk in.

''Maam are you okay?'' she bent down to examine her boss ''you look pale should I call your dad?''

''NO! I am fine sandy, what are you doing here?''

''I have been calling you for two hours I thought something terrible had happened'' Soledad checked her phone she had put it on silent mode upon entering the office to not interfere with her search.

''Don't worry sandy something terrible has happened'' She stood to her feet and without saying anything more she stormed out of the office.''Close the damn door will you?''

''Yes ma'am''

She ran down the stairs almost bumping into a janitor got into her car and sped off. She has never been terrified in her whole life like this she needed someone to talk to and not Evelyn Someone she has been resenting for almost two weeks now. She hit the unblock button and dialed the number.

''Where are you?'' she started.

''Oh! hi to you too''

''I need you to meet me are you busy?''

''I will make time for you, where are you?''

''Find me in muthaiga I will send you the exact location.''

Kelvin did not wait to be asked twice he stormed out of the building to his car he did not understand how Amos had disappeared on him without goodbye but he cared less he is a man he can do whatever he wants. His phone beeped and got the location. first, he needed to plan his moves carefully he did not want to f**k this up again so he passed through garden city mall to buy some flowers and gifts for Soledad. He chose to make a gist basket and wrote a note explaining how sorry he was.

He found Soledad in a garden in muthaiga she had chosen the place because it was quiet and private at the same time she was seated alone her hands wrapped around her head.

''What is this?'' she asked kelvin the moment he put the gift basket on the table.

''Its for you I know I have done wrong by you and...''

''stop it right there'' she interrupted him ''I did not call you here today to confess, you want to do that go to the church''

Kelvin looked at her in confusion.

''what is it then?''

''Aaah''

She realized that it was harder to explain than it looked. How was she going to tell this guy that his best friend was having an affair with her mum? It sounded funny even to her.

''Aaah okay then apologize you have done me so wrong and I was so hurt.''

She rose her voice and diverted her anger so kelvin wouldn't suspect anything

''Here''

Kelvin took the basket and opened the gift to give her the card. She took it but all she could see from the card was the image of her mother kissing Amos.

''Mmmh it's nice''

''Nice? I mean I was apologizing, but if you say it is nice I will accept that''

She looked at kelvin who was seated and wondered what secrets he could be hiding in there too.

She bent down and picked the chocolate kelvin had brought she was a nervous eater and she knew she was going to be doing that a lot since she lived with both her parents, how was she going to face her dad she tell him?

''I mean you are grammatically correct''

She looked at him and they both laughed. It felt good to laugh for the past few hours she was feeling this heavy thing in her chest it did not feel good at all.

''Kelvin''

She started as she sat down.

''I did not appreciate how you were treating me, I did not understand why but it felt terrible...it felt so terrible that I would hide to cry my help would often ask me why I was so down and I would lie to her but it just occurred to me that she is the only person who knows me in that house.''

She tried to hold down her tears as she took a sip of water she did not want to cry not in front of Kelvin. He moved closer and placed his hand on her back but she pulled away.

''I am sorry I know that no amount of sorry can make you believe me but I was stupid I did not use my head properly I was not rational even when things were openly displayed in front of me I still ignored them''

''Huh?'' she sniffed ''What are you talking about?''

He looked at her and smiled.

''But now I know'' he noded

''Can I take you out for lunch?''

''Hell no, we tried that and it did not work, I have to go home''

She stood up and her phone rang it was her mother she collapsed to her knees.
