ALEX POV It's the day of my wedding, and it seemed like an ordinary day to me, except for the gentle hum of excitement in the air, the sweet scent of blooming flowers wafting through the windows, and the soft chatter of the servants hurring to complete the final preparations. “Knock!” I turned to face my door, wondering who was knocking at this hour. “Who is by the door!” I yelled coldly, and the next voice I heard made me stand up from the bed and walk towards the door. I opened the door to see the smiling face of Gary which immediately turned to a frown. “Why aren't you dressed? Don't try to ruin today.” Gary spoke, his tone evidently disappointed. “You know I am doing this solely because Father wants me to produce an heir,” I replied flatly before walking back to the bed, leaving him by the door. “And you can't produce an heir with this attitude.” Gary rebuked before locking the door behind him and walked towards me. “It's just formality. And besides, I have no connection with the Woman I am supposed to marry, she isn't even my mate.” I stated and Gary’s eyebrows furrowing in disapproval “You haven't even spent up to an hour with your soon-to-be bride. Not for once have you let her come close to you. How would you know if she isn't your mate?” Gary questioned. “I would know my mate when I see her,” I replied simply before standing up to change into my wedding attire. “Would you ever find a mate? Your mean and cold demeanor literally scare ladies away from you. But Sandy, she's an exception. She's ready to sacrifice her life to be with you. That's dreadful.” Gary reasoned and I let out a chuckle. “Did I ever speak to you about finding my mate? Huh? I'm not interested in such shityy mate stuff. I am marrying her to produce an heir. Once she gets pregnant and delivers the baby, I would send her away. I don't need a mate or a Luna to run the darkwoods pack.” I started calmly. “Do you really plan to do all these? Like seriously? I am sure Beta Kendrick is against this.” Gary spoke before shaking his head in disappointment. “My Father only wants an heir. I don't think he cares about any woman in my life.” I shrugged before combing my jet-black hair into a ponytail. “What can I do to cajole you?” Gary asked, exhausted. “Nothing.” I replied with a scoff.” Now be a good friend and help me dress up for my wedding.” I spoke and Gary sighed before helping me adjust the final folds of my attire. As he stepped back, the soft chime of the ceremony bells echoed through the grounds, signaling the commencement of the wedding. With a deep breath, I followed Gary out of the chamber and onto the sun-drenched pathway leading to the ceremony entrance. ****** We arrived at the ceremony, surrounded by beautiful flowers and soft lanterns lightening the pathway. The air was filled with their sweet scent as the crowd turned to await my arrival “I thought it was just a Family and elders thing,” I mumbled with a frown on my face. “You are the Alpha of the dark woods, the leader of rogues. Don't you want the rogues to wish you well?” Gary queried and I scrunched my nose in annoyance. I lifted my gaze to the alter, my father's warm smile caught my eye, his eyes shining with pride, beckoning me forward. “Let's just get over all these,” I mumbled before walking to the altar, with everyone on their feet. “You look handsome as always.” My Father complimented me and I nodded. “Thank you, Father,” I replied and Gary whispered to my ears. “At least smile today, your face is scaring your guests.” I glanced briefly at the rogues and truly, some of them looked afraid. “ That's what I want,” I whispered back at Gary and he glared at me. As the door opens, my bride entered alongside my mother, and the crowd rose to welcome them. Sandra's elegant steps down the aisle seemed to slow time itself, until my mother took Sandra's hands and placed them in mine, giving me a gentle smile. Soon, an elder rogue started the ceremony, and immediately, I had a quick look at my bride-to-be. Although there was a see-through veil on her face, I could tell She was not bad-looking but definitely not my type of woman. Anyway, I wasn't going to get married to her because of love. My father needs an heir to continue our growing pack, and that he would receive. “I shall now join you both, under the acknowledgement of the moon goddess to lasting marriage….” Just as the the elder spoke the sacred words, and the sound of galloping horses grew louder, shattering the serene atmosphere. “Where have you kept my daughter!” A voice yelled, followed by horses' footsteps and people wailing. “That is Alpha Shawn's voice.” I heard my Father say in disbelief as he stood up and rushed out to get a sword. “What do you mean…” My Mom's voice trailed off the moment a lot of unknown horses with angry men stomped into the ceremony ground ready to s*******r anyone who opposes them. “Kill them all!” The army general yelled, and chaos erupted, with shouts and screams filling the air; Our ever-ready guards swiftly drew their swords countering the sudden onslaught. Since it was an open-air event, it allowed the guests to scatter, seeking refuge. Suddenly, the whole place became chaotic, and I became angry. What is happening and why are there so many foreign troops in our pack? Amidst the chaos, a maid rushed towards me, her hair disheveled, and her body shaking in fright. “Alpha… Our pack… people are dying…they are burning the houses!” She gasped, her words trembling out between ragged breaths. My jaw clenched, and my fist tightened as I glared at the Intruders. “Take my mom and my bride into safety immediately,” I ordered Gary but he shook his head. “No, I am staying with you. I am ready to fight!” He objected. “Take them with you now!” I growled. Disappearing into the crowd, he swiftly ushered my Mother and Sandy to safety. This was an unprepared battle, and I had no sword with me, and My Father wasn't anywhere in sight. The only option left for me is to shapeshift into my wolf form and tear all of them into pieces. Just as I was about to shapeshift, I felt a sharp metal Pierce into my skin from the back. Turning swiftly, I found a lady holding a sword, with blood dripping from the tip, my blood! I glared at her in anger, and with a clenched fist, no one who ever stabbed me lived to see another day, and this lady had the guts to stab me with a sword! “Why did you…” I was about to ask her when I began feeling a tingling sensation erupting in my body. I could feel my wolf jumping happily in my head and a word I didn't want to say came to my lips. “Mate?” I mumbled to only my hearing, and I saw her clench the sword in anger, ready to strike again. This gesture made anything in my head disappear and I looked at her, boiling with anger! “How dare you!” I yelled angrily and was about to charge forward to her when I felt a heavy jab on my neck. My vision blurred, and my legs buckled beneath me. As I stumbled backward, the world around me dissolved into chaos – the clash of steel, the screams of the terrified, and the pounding of hooves faded into the darkness closing in. The last thing I heard was the voice, cold and detached, “Tie him with the other captives and bring them with us…” Before darkness consumed me, I felt rough hands bind my wrists, and my body was dragged away.
