Bound to Pass

She couldn’t reckon better when she saw it, it was as if her heart was clasped so hard that she doesn’t want to acknowledge what’s in front of her. She just gazed at it for a span as the sharp sensation touched her back. Dander slowly filled her soul as her nails slowly dugged on the wooden table. She didn’t bother to take interest even if it hurts. It doesn’t match how the pain the woman had suffered when she’s not around. It was the pin that she saw when Favia was losing her own life. The eagle’s eye was clearly seen. She remembered what Leovander had shared to them a while ago, that was given to someone as a vow of their patriotism. She realized that the pin she brought from her place isn’t the only one that exists. Trench had also got it. But things were more crucial. She was about to take a leave when suddenly she heard the man spoke from behind, making her skipped a throb. “What are you doing here?” He shortly asked with an irritated tone. He moved to her and swiftly grabbed the box away from Carmilla. “Why are you touching my stuff?” He asked her again, and that is when everything had snapped out of reality. “Oh, I was searching for you and when I arrived here, you’re not around so I decided to wait...A-and…and it just caught my attention, so I took a glimpse of it." “Where did you get this?” His eyes were intently looking at her, as if he’s trying to read her soul. She needed to calm her tides or it would be destructive. “It was just there. Near your folders. I thought it won’t be such a big deal to you if I see it. What is it by the way? I mean, it’s new to me.” She asked him straightforwardly. She needed some answers and that’s why she’s here. But deep inside, she wanted to wack him off. His wounds can be seen clearly now that she’s near to him. Trench gulped several times and placed the box inside his compartment, then he glared at her. He took a whiff and obviously, he’s being uneasy in front of her. “It’s a badge for loyalty.” He spoke. Leovander was right after all, that’s what she deeply thought. The way Trench is talking now with her is way too different from before. He’s not stuttering anymore and he had gained much confidence now. What a change! She should have congratulated him for such improvement, but they’re not closed and will never be. “Mr. Zyrender gave this to me all of a sudden. He rewarded it to me and I’m thankful.” He added and somehow, she could see the pride engulfing around him. “I see. I’m sorry I wasn’t there when he gave it to you. It’s probably your best day.” She sarcastically said. The man gleamed with a smile. “Yes. Too bad, I lost the original one of it. So, your father needed to make a replica of it. It was my fault for losing it.” Now, she could see that things are getting slowly to place – connecting to each other. Few things to ask him more then she could confirm that he’s the one. She peeked at his arms and elbows. Trench was able to see where she’s looking at and carefully pulled his coat to cover them. “Where did you get those? Did you come out into a fight?” She scoffed and made a face. Intently, she’s wearing a mask right now. Well, both they’re, just to hide their true intentions. “I…paced down the market and there was this woman who bumped on me. I tried to avoid her, but then I stumbled on the ground and hit my arms and elbows hard on those corroded rocks.” He said, without making an eye connection. Trench shrugged and went near the shelves to calm himself. His shoulders were stiff and his head also. And that’s when she had confirmed that it was him when she was able to take a glimpse at his neck. It was full scratches as if he had encountered a wild cat, more like a mere woman. She recollected everything that had happened when she arrived inside Favia’s place. Her fingers were deeply swollen, but her nails were filled with fresh blood as if she had stuck, digged them deeply on someone’s flesh. And now, Carmilla just witnessed the slayer of her friend. Despondency embraced her as well as rage, but she needed to keep her barriers. She wanted to take revenge but she knew that it’s not the right place and time to do it to him. She’s thinking more outside the box. What she’s committing right now and will still be doing will affect the others, especially those who’re trusting her – Era. She cchamped her lip hard for her to narrow her thoughts. “I guessed I should leave now…” She said almost in a hum. “Oh. But, we haven’t talked about what really made you decide to come over here.” He uttered and turned his back, walking in her position. Trench offered a time-worn book that he still hadn’t opened. She slowly snatched it and latched her gaze on it. It was the book that her Father used to read on her during the night to make her sleep. “Where did you get this?” “I was cleaning this place. In fact, it’s where your old stuff is dumped. So, we have to move them all in another room. I picked it up, thinking that you wanted to keep it again. It’s yours from the very start." “T-Thank you.” “You can keep it or if you don’t want, then you can just leave it here in my office.” He added. She shook her head and set it inside her bag. “No. I want to read it again…By myself.” “Okay. So, what brings you here?” “I…I wanted to ask…if what’s the situation of the kids and the training ground?” Luckily, she was able to come up with a topic that could cover her up. He tapped his fingers on the desk. “So far, so good. The twins are enjoying their new home. They said that they will visit here anytime soon. In regards to the training ground, it’s working well, but we’re planning to have an expansion. They’re still a lot of kids that we can contact and coach.” “I see. That’s a good idea. I’ll visit the Care Orphanage too and have a recruitment around the city. Maybe their parents who wanted to take their child still inside the training ground.” She simply stated. “That’s good to hear.” Trench moved and settled on his chair. He began to review those folders. They were profiles of those children that took their decisions recently to join. Despite of what’s happening around, the training ground is something that’s hard to stop. Zyrender Everdeen had dedicated most of his time before to train children and some of the results of such work were Trixie and the others. He cleared his conscience enough to get her attention back again. “Is there something you wanted to ask? If not, then I should get back on these papers.” Carmilla twitched her head and disputed, “No, there’s nothing further. I just really want to know any updates of the kids, since it would be hard for them to be apart from each other.” He agreed with a nod. Carmilla slightly bowed to him and excused herself to leave. “Thank you for your time...” She smiled at Trench. “No worries.” She ran outside promptly and when she was exposed under the sun’s glory, her smile dropped off from her face and turned into a critical one. She clenched her hands and decided to go to Era to give a report.
