Entry 5 – Shattered Reflections

379 Words
I tried to hang a mirror today. One I’d been using just like that for a while now. Maybe I shouldn’t have bothered, because I almost regretted trying to make it stand instead of just letting it be. The stone I used was fragile - it cracked as I struck the nail to the wall, and before I knew it, the mirror slipped from my hold and shattered on the floor. The sound echoed, tiny shards, sharp as truth, littered around, splitting the air and my trail of thoughts. The pieces glittered like frozen tears, and I picked them up carefully, their edges gleaming with both cruelty and beauty, like thorns made of glass. I swept the glittering dust of what once was, and set some fragments aside. Then I noticed one piece – just a quarter of the whole, but when I lifted the fragment and looked into it, it still showed my full face. Great how something broken could still reflect something whole. That’s the fact about reflection, it doesn’t need to be whole to show the truth. The fragments still hold the full story. The broken pieces still remember your form. You know, our hearts are like that too. They shatter and bleed, but still manage to hold love, even with cracks running through them. Because even in pieces, the reflection doesn’t lie. We’re still strong, still capable of light, still made of something that remembers beauty even after breaking. * * * * * * * Half of the Moon, Whole of Its Promise It’s the moon again – shining out softly. Not too bright yet, just enough to stand out in the endless blue sky. It isn’t its time yet, but there it is, peeking halfway through the evening light, keeping a quiet promise of an illuminated night. Standing far and unreachable, nestled between the earth’s roof, like an indifferent fellow – but one that never fails to show up when the sun wraps up its shift. Because even distance can still deliver light. ~ A quiet evening, a slice of bread, a gaze beyond the trees, and the moon reminding me that beauty doesn't need a stage, and it’s okay to just be. The sky was calm tonight, and so was my heart.
