Noticing her reddened eyes, he tenderly grasped her hand.
"Evie, morning sickness again? Let me call the doctor. It hurts me to see you like this."
"No need..."
Evangeline withdrew her hands, studying the man she'd loved for seven years.
His sharp features and sculpted nose made him devastatingly handsome as always, like an Adonis glowing with charisma.
Shame that he was a cheater.
Her gaze snagged on the faint mark above his unbuttoned collar.
On his pale skin, that hickey was as obvious as ever, making her eyes sting.
"Jack, what's that on your neck?" Her gentle voice carried a sense of oppression.
He absently rubbed the spot, Adam's apple bobbing."Mosquito bite, I guess."
As Jackson signed the lie without blinking, Evangeline felt her heart shattered.
Just because she couldn't hear didn't mean she was blind or dumb!
He didn't even bother to hide it anymore?!
"I'm a little tired. I don't feel like trying the dresses now."
Evangeline turned to leave, and Jackson didn't stop her. They stepped into the elevator together.
Just as the doors were about to close, a petite figure slipped inside.
Evangeline froze when her gaze flickered over the woman.
This girl looked a bit like her.
Her smile seemed sweet, but beneath it lurked a challenge only another woman would recognize.
"Hello, Evangeline, I'm Aveline Wagner. Jax talks about you all the time." Aveline paused."Oh, sorry, I forgot you can't hear me."
Evangeline tensed up.
It was her, the same horny voice from the fitting room next door!
Her husband's mistress was standing right in front of her, smiling in her face.
The nerve of her!
Evangeline's eyes turned icy as she studied Aveline.
Her designer suit appeared professional, but the undone buttons and plunging necklace strategically emphasized her curves, just enough to tempt a man's gaze.
To a man, she was pure temptation.
Jackson's expression darkened the moment Aveline entered.
"Ava, what are you doing here? I told you whatever happens privately stays private. You don't get to show up in front of Evie."
Aveline's smile remained pleasant, but her voice dripped with venom.
"Jax, Evangeline and I could've been such good friends. Pity she can't hear me. It makes things difficult." She tilted her head, feigning innocence."Then again, maybe it's better she doesn't. Some truths are better left unheard."
With that, she gave Evangeline a polite nod, then casually stepped past her, positioning herself beside Jackson.
The two stood side by side behind Evangeline.
Shortly after, Evangeline heard the rustling sound behind her.
The sound of them, those two despicable people, already unable to keep their hands off each other.
"Jax, you were too rough. It hurts. Rub it for me, okay?"
"Whose fault is that? You're the one who insisted on trying that position."
Too rough? That position?
Evangeline's mind flooded with images of what must have happened in the fitting room next door.
Her blood burned in her veins. Her nails dug deep into her palms.
Her fingers twitched at her sides, clenching, then spreading. The urge to slap them both grew unbearable.
She yelled inwardly,"Jackson, you're really going to force me to expose you right here?"
Her restraint snapping, Evangeline whirled around.
