"Mr. Craig, I want to disappear completely before the wedding!"
Jasper's flawlessly sculpted face remained impassive."So, you're punishing yourself over a fight with Jackson?"
"No, it's a rebirth through destruction." A bitter, self—mocking smile curled at Evangeline's lips.
"I plan to give him an unforgettable wedding gift at his grand ceremony."
That "gift" would be her corpse.
She forwarded Jasper an electronic copy of her plan.
"Mr. Craig, I need to fake my death before the wedding, erase my current identity, and leave this city as someone new. Even if the ruse is discovered, Jackson must never find me again."
If not for the depression, the demon in her mind whispering for her to end it all, she might not have resorted to this.
"So, you want Jackson to live as a widower, drowning in regret?" Jasper glanced at the document on his phone.
The plan was meticulous, ruthless, and designed to destroy a man emotionally.
But it would only work on someone who had truly loved her.
"Die after the divorce." Jasper's long fingers tapped the table elegantly.
"His assets hold seven years of your youth. To punish a man, you must wound his heart and his wallet." He paused, then added,"My top lawyer is at your disposal."
Evangeline's delicate brows furrowed.
If they divorced, where would the grand wedding be? Unless ... she did something to keep him in the dark about it.
She stood to leave, her eyes shadowed with unreadable emotions.
Jasper watched her slender, retreating figure, his icy demeanor flickering with something unidentifiable...
When Evangeline returned home, delivery personnel were unloading baby supplies.
"Madam, your husband spent over 30 thousand dollars on these! He must adore you and your baby."
Evangeline's expression changed suddenly. Their baby was gone.
Her fingers gently brushed against the soft baby clothes. The barely healed emotional wound tore open again, leaving her clutching at the edges of the tear.
She had so looked forward to bearing a baby that would look like Jackson. She'd even secretly stopped taking her ear medication and endured bitter herbal treatments to prepare for pregnancy.
But now... she could never have children again.
"Mrs. Daugherty, where should we install this maternity digital photo frame?"
"What does it do?"
"It displays rotating baby pictures and videos on the wall. Mr. Daugherty said seeing cute babies every day would be pleasing to the eye and lift your spirits. How thoughtful of him."
As the worker activated the screen, instead of babies, a romantic snowfall filled the display.
Then Aveline's beaming face appeared.
"Jax! You spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to make artificial snow just because I rarely saw it growing up in the south? Oh my, I love it!"
Evangeline's breath caught. A sharp, sour pain shot through her chest.
Was this what he called "pleasing to the eye" and "cheering up"?
How thoughtful.
Jackson's deep voice resonated from the video:"I know you've always wanted snow, Ava. Happy birthday."
