5: Blast from the past

*Shawn’s POV

Scaring her is the last thing I want to do, but I must tell her everything before she sees her eyes. I did not break her skin while I was scraping my canines on her mark. Confused I said…

“Sugar lips I need you to get dressed and come with me. I want to show you something, okay?”

She looked at me, questioning my motives in her mind.

” Yes sir, I will come with you.”

I could not help the smile that spread across my face! She quickly went to the bathroom and got herself cleaned and brushed her teeth quickly. Sin came out of her walk-in closet dressed in some blue shorts and a white top.

Walking out her back-patio doors, we were greeted with an amazing view of a small open meadow with the full forest in view. As we got closer to the forest, I could tell she was starting to get anxious. I quickly calmed her by explaining that the forest is my favorite place to be. It relaxed me as soon as I said that, and she saw the honesty in my eyes. She relaxed.

When we got deep enough to not be seen but also so she could have a view of her house, I said to her…

“ Sin, I need to show you something really important about me and I really don’t want you to be afraid.

I am going to do this because you deserve to know, and you also need to know what you are.

“What am I?” she asked, confused and slightly concerned.

“You’re not human. I know that sounds crazy, but I can prove it. Just please DO NOT RUN. Could you do that for me, Sin?

She nervously swallowed. “Yes, I can do it.”

Once she said she could, I began to strip down to nothing. I noticed her eyes getting big. Chuckling to myself, I finished and began to shift. Sin was staring at me hard, waiting, and right before she was about to speak, my bones started to lengthen, allowing my wolf Hades to appear. Standing tall at 7’3, my wolf looked down at her.

*Sin POV*

Standing in the forest listening to him, I wanted to call him crazy until his bones started breaking, and where there was once skin now showed jet black fur that really was f*****g swirling smoke. I could not believe what I was seeing right now, I just could not. I was speechless as he grew massive in front of me.

Lord knows I wanted to bolt back to my house and hide, but what would that help? He would stop me in seconds.

Shaking a little, I move closer to him and reach out to touch him, but he backs away. I was confused by this and I tried again. This time he seemed distracted. He lowered his head without realizing what he was doing.

I placed my hand on the face of the wolf in front of me. I swear in his eyes it looked like he was shocked. His wolf had piercing green orbs. It felt like he could see my damn soul. He felt HOT to the touch, so hot I should not be able to touch him like that, but it was soothing to me.

*Shawn’s POV

I was shocked that she touched me. I did not want her to, knowing what would happen if she did. Mentally killing myself that I did not tell her this, her hand touched the face of Hades, and she did not burn to a f*****g crisp! I do not understand why.

No one has been able to touch me in wolf form.

Shawn begins to slip into a memory he knows all too well. As this is happening, Sin’s eyes begin to glow. It was completely silent; you could hear a pin drop. Above her skin, smoke started to form, it began to f*****g glow and she almost broke the connection. Slowing down her breathing, she went with it and allowed the energy from the wolf into her. For a moment she was confused and asked herself “Hades?”

“Hello, Little One!” Sin relaxed and just knew the wolf she was touching and the man that stole her breath away was Hades.

“We have been waiting for you for fifteen years little one, you are my Luna, our pack’s Luna, My Queen.” You are our MATE!”

“I am starting to understand this to be true, and clearly, I am not human.

I have no idea what I am.

” Sin says, a voice laced with confusion.

Hades says to her… “I can tell you one thing; I know your wolf’s name!”

Sin gasps, sucking in the fresh cold air.

“What is her name?”

“MEDUSA!”

Sin was taken back by that and thought of Medusa from Greek mythology.

” Wow, so does that mean she is the real Medusa?” Sin asked, anxious to know.

“Yes, as are you, her spirit is yours.

You may not have all your memories from your life like her or the other lives you have lived. Part of the curse Athena placed on you so long ago also stopped you from remembering who you are.”

Sin could not breathe. Sin was thinking hard about how all this is even possible, but it is. Focusing back on Hades, Sin knows if she is Medusa, then Shawn really is Hades.

“Little one, I need you to focus on Shawn now, he is remembering a memory that he keeps suppressed and it will destroy him all over again. He needs you more than he knows as you need him.

Go to him, help him through this.

Sin looked confused, “What do you mean?”

“Trust me little one, you will know when the time is right.

You know what to do, trust your instincts.”

Breathing deeply, Sin filled her lungs with the chilled crisp morning air and focused on Shawn.

*Shawn’s POV*

Flashback—Shawn’s 18th Birthday…Music was playing from the house; I could hear it from the courtyard. The Humpty Dance by Digital Underground came blasting out of the speakers:

Now gather round

I'm the new fool in town

And my sound's laid down by the Underground

I drink up all the Hennessey ya got on ya shelf

So just let me introduce myself.

My name is Humpty, pronounced with a Umpty.

Yo ladies, oh how I like to hump thee

And all the rappers in the top ten--please allow me to bump thee

I'm steppin' tall, y'all.

And just like Humpty Dumpty

You're gonna fall when the stereos pump me.

Smelling the BBQ coming to life by our human chef, also my stepfather; the music he would play and do not get me started about the food! Any wolf would want to join the party.

Being born into the Emerald Lagoon pack was like being born into royalty.

My childhood here was the absolute best. Having a real lagoon on our land made things even better. A Lagoon is a stretch of saltwater separated from the sea by a low sandbank or coral reef. To get to it on our land you would have to hike, but for a wolf, that was a piece of cake.

Our land is the Humboldt Lagoons, State Park. Emerald lagoon is known to humans as Stone Lagoon Beach. The lagoon is a large open body of water in the shoreline forest between the towns of Orick and Trinidad. The only area humans are permitted to enter or leave is using Redwood Highway 101 at the south end of Stone Lagoon. In the past, sometimes even now, we still attend bonfire parties with humans.

Alex, my younger brother by a few years, came running up to me in wolf form. Alex was a mystery about how he ended up with his wolf before he turned 18, even the elders had no answer to how this was possible. That was until he just told our doctor what happened years ago. He was taken by hunters when he was 10. They did things to him that to this day he will not talk about. The pack doctor believed that what happened caused his wolf to force the shift way too early.

His wolf was chocolate brown, shiny as s**t in the sun. His wolf form stands on all fours at 5’9, which is the average height wolves are.

Always finding a moment to be extra as he possibly can; He shifts back into human form, walking up to me f*****g naked, I swear.

Reaching into the nearby vase, I pulled out some basketball shorts and threw them at his face. He dresses and says

“Shawn, come on man, live a little!

Your f*****g 18 you get to meet your wolf today, to shift, to run free, you got to be pumped.

Little did he know, I had met my wolf already! Looking at him, rolling my eyes, I say... " Yes, I am excited to finally run like my wolf. I have been looking forward to this for so long. However, I met my wolf when I was ten." Alex looked so confused as I walked away grinning.

Ever since the day I was born, he has been with me, growing and getting stronger. By the time I turned ten, he spoke to me, teaching me many things, but never once did he tell me his name. He would be cryptic a lot when I was trying to pry information out of him.

My mother is beautiful, brown-skinned and if her eyes landed on you, just know she already knows what you are up to. She is very hands-on and pays attention to detail. Her name is Roxy, she is the longest-running Luna amongst the other packs in the world. It was this way because we had no alpha, until today, my 18th birthday, when I will become Alpha. We lost the previous Alpha to the war with the hunters who organized Alex's kidnapping. My mother took it hard until she met my stepfather, her second chance mate. He was not made the Alpha because he was human and that has never been done nor approved by the elders.

What I was most excited about was finally meeting my mate and Luna. Of course, becoming Alpha was amazing. I have known this my whole life. Growing up we learned about mates. Every wolf male or female on their 18th birthday will experience what it is like to be pulled to their mates by scent alone. Once you find your mate and lock eyes, that creates the link that forms the mate bond between the two. There are many laws in wolf culture. If either party decides to reject their mate, they can do so.

However, the other party will have to choose to accept the rejection or deny it.

Once the bond is broken between a mated pair it is like death, you feel like you are dying. Agonizing endless pain that will never go away unless you are lucky enough to be blessed with a second chance mate. That, however, has not been seen or heard of; so, to reject your one true mate is basically suicide.

The memory starts to shimmer, alerting sin that the memory is about to vanish but does not. Shawn is fighting to suppress this memory and Sin can feel it.
