The witched watched him from across the street. She had finally found him. Miranda’s already too small heart grew blacker as she watched Conor exit his front door and lock it. She watched with malice as he strolled with a bounce in his step while whistling to his black luxury car. How dare he look happy!! The feelings the sight provoked made her see red. It had taken her what seemed like an eternity to track him down after she had sent the thug in the direction of his last mate. Maybe she should feel bad. Nah! Miranda laughed quietly to herself. If she weren’t to be his mate, no one would. She chanted quietly and disappeared as the headlights of Conor’s car hit the bushes where her face had been moments before.

Conor had sworn he had felt eyes on him. Centuries of hunting and being hunted made him positive of the fact. He would have checked it out in any other circumstance, but he had Camille waiting for him and he was already running late. He had shot her a text with his ETA at about 15 minutes as he backed out of his driveway. He hoped that Camille was still waiting for him. He put the pedal down as he turned up his music. He wanted to get himself in the clubbing mood. Knowing that Daniel had picked the place, he was worried about the kind of place it would be. He wouldn’t keep Camille waiting longer than necessary, so he picked up the pace even more.
Camille looked at her phone again to check the time. She really hoped he was coming. One of her pet peeves was people who were incapable of following through. Her phone buzzed and just be for she looked at it, she heard the bass of a car system before she spotted the black car that was so recognizable. She shook her head and smiled as the car slowly rolled to a stop in front of her. She slowly sauntered up to the car and watched as the window rolled down revealing a smiling Conor. “Hey there sugar. Looking for a good time?” Camille purred seductively. Conor couldn’t help the laughter that escaped. “Get in and come with me to find parking. She rushed around the front of the car and hopped into the passenger seat.
Conor finally found a spot. It was a decent space too. I couldn’t have been more that 6oo ft from the main entrance where there was a line of club goers waiting to get in. The music that played inside the building could be heard outside too. It didn’t seem too bad a place as far as Conor could see, but he wasn’t as interested in the club as he was watching Camille’s backside as she led the way with a seductive switch to her hips. She looked beautiful. Her hair was pinned up whit a few stay curly ringlets dropping to frame her face. Her dress was black and form fitting with a plunging neckline that showed a little cleavage but left room for the imagination to run wild which is exactly what Conor’s imagination was doing. Here fire red stiletto heels were six inches high and made her hips, butt and calves more pronounced. Conor was mesmerized into silence. “Earth to Conor!” Camille said with a wave of her hands in his face. He had been so busy assessing her that he hadn’t noticed that she had been speaking to him. “Get your ID out. I was already in there, so we don’t have to wait in the line.” She explained as she flashed her right wrist that had been stamped to the bouncer. He nodded without a word and stepped aside for them to enter. Conor caught the appreciative glace that the bouncer snuck and couldn’t help the pride that swelled in his chest. Though she didn’t know it, she was all his and the man could look until the cows came home, and the roosters laid eggs.
The music was loud. Conor was glad that he had the foresight to stick a small amount of cotton in his ears which was invisible in the dark of the club. If he hadn’t, he would probably be on the floor in pain from his super sensitive hearing. Camille took Conor’s hand and led him while she dance-walked a shot distance. Conor could hear the laughter coming from the table before e the reached it. The look that registered on Daniel’s face was priceless and wasn’t missed by Camille. “you two know each other she shouted. “Yea that’s my best friend!!” Daniel crowed as he hopped up and leapt from the booth easily and with out very much effort earning him a look for the people dancing closest to their table. Daniel clapped Conor in a huge hug and lifted him slightly off the ground. “Cool, I didn’t realize that you had any friends in town.” Tracy said while she moved over to make room for their newest addition. “I didn’t realize either.” Daniel lied smoothly. That was something that came with the territory though. “We are going to have to catch up.” Conor replied, keeping up the appearance. “C’mon babe!! Let’s dance.” Tracy said pulling Daniel back out of the booth almost as soon as he sat back down. Conor realized that it wasn’t a request as he watched the look on his friend’s face and chuckled. “I don’t know what you’re giggling about but come dance with me.” Camille said as she rose from her see and held her hand out to him. It was familiar and precious to Camille. She had the feeling that she had done this before, And with Conor. She shook the feeling as he accepted her hand and let himself be led to the large dance floor that held the sweating and withering bodies of other club goers.
Camille moved her hips in time with the music and Conor was held captive watching her. His pride and ego swelled to a fever pitch as the guys around her stared as though she had put a spell on them. Every time he would notice a man getting close or coming toward her, he would step closer behind her and bare his vampire K-9 teeth and that effectively caused the guy to change directions. One such man was not dissuaded from trying his luck. The stranger walked right up to Camille. He was a large man and topped Conor by several inches. His arms were thick with flexing muscles that glistened in the club’s strobe lights. “Hey there sweetheart, would you care to dance with a real man?” He said to Camille who had slowed her dancing and become hyper aware of Conor at her back. She was dancing more to distract Conor than she was to seduce him. It was like she had a fully grown wolf at her back. She could’ve sworn she heard a growling noise emit from deep in his chest, but the music was too loud to be positive. “She’s already dancing with the best man.” Conor replied, his voice dripping murder in each word. The stranger laughed loudly. “Learn to share the whor…” before he could finish the words, Camille slid Conor to the side and punched the stranger square in the face with lighting speed for a human. Conor was very satisfied with the loud crunch of the guy’s breaking nose as he stumbled around the floor causing a few people to sidestep or be splattered with the blood that ran from the behemoths broken nose.
Tracy suddenly appeared. “Can I steal Camille, please?” her voice said from behind Conor as she tapped lightly on his shoulder. He turned his attention from the man to grab Camille’s hips and spin her around to face her friend. “Come to the bathroom with me.” Tracy said in Camille’s ear over the music and the two women walked away leaving Conor to located Daniel so that they could wonder back to their booth. “You sly dog you! Why didn’t you tell me that you were already dating Tracy’s friend? And that was a good punch Camille threw. I could hear your growl across the room and watched. Poor bastard.” Daniel said punching Conor in the arm. “Yea. The guy thought to disrespect Camille. I was getting ready to deck him but she beat me to it. And I didn’t know you were even dating Tracy. I only just started dating Camille. This is literally our second date. She called me after you left and asked me to come along.” He replied, thinking about the fire he had seen in Camille’s eyes as he took a sip of his drink. Vampires couldn’t get drunk or high because their bodies metabolized substances too quickly, but Conor had always enjoyed the taste of alcohol and it had only improved over the centuries. Liquids were the only things that a vamp could keep down with no major side effects.
At that moment, the girls returned. “Hey, I’m totally ready to go.” Tracy said as she gathered her purse and stood up straight adjusting her too short cocktail dress. The quartet walked out of the club. “I’m going to ride with Conor if that’s cool with everybody.” Camille said after they had reached Tracy’s car. Conor smiled and nodded his head as he took her hand and lead her away from their friends. “That punch was awesome.” Conor said in awe. Camille blushed. “Thanks. My dad taught me how to box when I was young.” They reached Conor’s car and he unlocked and opened her door. With a quiet thank you, she slid into the smooth leather seats. “So, are we going to your place?” Conor asked after a few minutes of quiet. Camille contemplated for a moment before she said, “What do you want to do?” She looked out the window. “I want to you to come over.” He replied. Camille stiffened for an unperceivable moment then relaxed again. “I think you should take me home.” She said with a firmness that she didn’t necessarily feel. Lord she wanted to go over his house, but her mind kept reverting back to the tarot cards. The were blessed ancient objects with the cumulative magics from generations of witches. The cards were never wrong. The only card that made her weary was Death. She needed to seek help if she wanted to lay with Conor with a clean conscious.
Conor was disappointed to say the least. I thought that he would actually be given a chance to see if her markings had begun. He noticed a change in her for a split second when he had told her he wanted her to come over. He didn’t dwell on it because he was sure he wasn’t supposed to notice. He chatted with her easily about other things instead. He wasn’t going to let on how disappointed he really was. It felt like a rejecting blow. Only time would tell if that was what she meant by her decline for a nightcap. They made plans to have coffee together sometime during the week after classes. He pulled up to her house five minutes later. Tracy’s car was still gone. “I wonder where those two got off to?” Camille said slightly amused. “That’s probably exactly where they are. Getting off!” Conor laughed at his own joke and Camille could only shake her head and laugh along. He turned the ignition of and hopped out the car to open her door. He walked her to the front door and waited as she unlocked it. With the door open, Camille said “Good night. I had a really good time with you. Now I have to go ice my hand.” She chuckled quietly. Her laugh caressed him making him long to take her in the doorway. “I had a good time too. Go take care of that hand.” Then he leaned in and kissed her solidly on the lips. Camille kissed him back after a shocked moment and opened her mouth invitingly. It was like the universe had exploded into existence inside Camille’s head. There was light and heat as she reveled in the power of his aura. They kissed for several seconds before the sound of a clearing throat cause Camille to jump six feet in the air. It was Tracy and Daniel. “I thought I would find you here when we didn’t see your car in the driveway at your house.” Daniel said from behind a laughing Tracy. “Caught cha red handed!” She laughed even harder at the pink glow that tinted Camille’s cheeks. “I’m going back with you bro.” Daniel said as he kissed Tracy firmly and turned to head toward Conor’s car. “Good night Conor!!” Tracy said loudly as she dragged her friend into the house behind her. Camille waived goodbye one last time before Tracy turned and closed the door in his face. He smiled to himself and touched his lips. He could still feel the current that had flowed between them when their lips connected. What had that feeling been? He was in thought as he approached his car and the waiting Daniel. “What’s up dude? Your face looks confused.” Daniel asked as he plopped in the passenger seat. “Nothing. Weird feeling kissing Camille was all.” He admitted with no shame. He told his best friend everything. “Maybe it has something to do with the whole mate bond thing.” He replied thoughtfully. Conor shrugged his shoulders and turned up the music as he sped home.
