Lain resisted the urge to swear as a dog growled deep in its throat off to his left before breaking into full-throated barks. The warning carried across the farmstead. He looked over to the looming Kastler estate settled into the mountain and relaxed marginally. It looked close, he could even see the glow of the campfires from the armed rebels they’d amassed. He knew though that they were far enough away that even if the men heard the dog, they wouldn’t think too much of it. He hoped. The bigger problem was if the lights of those who lived out here started to flare. That might draw attention. “Let’s move, get these people out of here. Someone shut that dog up, don’t kill it.” Lain really did groan, being a do-gooder made his life so much harder. Like all those who led these parties Lain
