“We’re going to have a talk, Ed.”Mavers slammed him into a chair. It almost tipped over, but Maverscaught the armrests and jammed the legs back on the carpet. Thetrayalso held a glass of ice water. It splashed in Ed’s face. Hecoughed and shook as water droplets flew through the air.
“Who are the two men who paid me avisit last night?” Mavers demanded.
Ed’s eyes slowly focused again.“Jimmy, you almost killed me.” His voice was weak. Syllables justmanaged to escape from the mouth.
