THE SECRET DEAL
One week later, Willow found herself standing in front of the most luxurious hospital she had ever seen. The building gleamed under the sun, looking cold and intimidating. It was a world away from the small, shabby apartment she now called home.
“You look like you’re about to face your execution,” Parker joked lightly, though she reached out to adjust Willow’s collar gently. Her eyes showed genuine concern as she looked at her best friend. “Relax, Willow. This is your ticket to a new life. Trust me on this.”
Willow took a deep, shaky breath, her hands trembling slightly at her sides. She knew that once she stepped inside, there would be no turning back. For her mother, who does everything for them. For her brother and for their better future. She had to do this. There was no other choice.
They entered a private office that looked more like a high-end hotel suite than a medical room. Everything was expensive and pristine. Lying neatly on the large mahogany table was a thick stack of papers, the contract that would change her life forever.
Without wasting any time, Willow sat down and started reading. Page after page, clause after clause. She read it with sharp focus, her eyes moving swiftly as she absorbed every single detail, analyzing every word written.
“Are you seriously reading all of that? We don’t have all day, you know,” Parker teased, rolling her eyes and checking her painted nails impatiently.
“I need to know exactly what I’m getting into,” Willow answered firmly, not lifting her eyes from the paper. ‘I may be desperate, but I am not stupid,’ she told herself.
She read and memorized every single word:
She will carry the child.
She will give birth safely and healthily.
She will hand over the baby immediately after delivery.
She will never look for the child or the biological father ever again.
She will keep everything a strict secret for the rest of her life.
It was harsh. It was cold. It was purely business, devoid of any emotion.
But the amount written on the paper was enough to erase all their debts, buy a new house, and secure their future for generations. It was a life-changing sum of money. However, amidst all the papers, her eyes kept drifting back to one specific part, the space reserved for the father’s signature.
That is it, she thought, her heart beating fast. This is my only chance to see his name. To know who he is, even just on paper.
She was fully aware that they would never meet personally. Parker had made it very clear how powerful and wealthy this man was. Their worlds were miles apart. Yet, she couldn’t help but wonder.
Wouldn’t he even want to see the woman who would carry his heir? Just to check? What if the child ends up looking... not up to their standards? What if, because of my genes, the baby doesn’t look perfect?
She knew she wasn’t that ugly. She had her own simple beauty. But the pressure was overwhelming.
‘If he’s that rich and powerful,’ her mind questioned endlessly, ‘why go through all this trouble? Why not just find a supermodel or do it the natural way? Why pay a hundred million dollars and send a hundred thousand every single month? Is their money really unlimited?’
It seemed so reckless and illogical to her. Any rational person would think this was crazy. But here she was. For the past seven days, she had done nothing but stare at the ceiling of their tiny apartment, sleepless and overthinking.
It’s not just a simple job, she reminded herself. Carrying on with life is hard enough. But carrying an heir? The future of a powerful lineage? What if I fail? But then again... what else could she do? This was her only way out of poverty and shame. Life really is strange; sometimes it forces you to do things that seem impossible and stupid, yet you have no choice but to take the risk.
“Is everything clear?” Parker asked, breaking her train of thought. Her voice suddenly turned serious, and there was a hint of nervousness in her eyes.
Willow looked up, biting her lower lip anxiously. “Yes. But Parker... Can I at least know who the father is? Just a name? Or who his family is? I deserve to know that much, right?”
Parker froze for a second, her expression shifting slightly. She looked away quickly, avoiding Willow’s gaze, clearly hiding something huge. She bit her lip, seeming hesitant.
“You don’t need to know that yet, Will,” she said evasively, waving her hand as if brushing off the question. “It’s part of the agreement.” "Strict confidentiality. But trust me when I say... he is someone very important. Someone extremely powerful. And he needs an heir badly because of his grandmother, who is very sick and doesn’t have much time left."
Willow frowned, feeling a pang of doubt, but she nodded slowly. She trusted her best friend, even though her gut feeling told her there was something Parker wasn't telling her. “Okay. If that’s the case...” She reached for the pen, but her hand stopped midair.
“And there’s one more thing,” Willow said suddenly, her voice soft but worried. “What about Mom? How am I going to explain this to her? Don’t tell me I’m actually going to go through with this?” she asked, fear evident in her voice.
“Tsk, leave everything to me,” Parker said confidently, leaning back on her chair. “Don’t worry, I already have a plan. I bought a house, not that big, just simple and comfortable. You can stay there with me for a while. As for your mom, I already told her that you’re staying at my place because you got a high-paying part-time job, and it’s closer here. I told her it will make your life easier.”
Easier? Willow thought ironically inside her mind. More like my life is literally going to end because of the things I’m doing. She sighed internally. Sometimes, life throws things at you that seem impossible and stupid, yet you end up doing them anyway.
“Oh, and regarding your studies,” Parker added casually, crossing her legs. “You won’t be going to school for a while. You’ll be homeschooled. My mom has already talked to the principal and explained that you’re part of a special project. So you don’t have to worry about attendance or grades.”
Everything was falling into place. Too perfect, in fact. There was really no turning back now.
‘I’m sorry,’ she whispered in her heart, tears pricking her eyes. ‘But I have no choice.’ or maybe she has, but what is it? It's not easy to earn money now for a person who is inexperienced in that kind of work?
Without another word, she dipped the pen in the ink and signed her name clearly on the dotted line.
Willow Torres
The sound of the pen on the paper felt like she was sealing her own fate. As soon as she lifted the pen, she felt a strange feeling. It was like she had just given away a part of herself.
“Congratulations!” Parker grinned widely, looking relieved and happy, clapping her hands excitedly. She held Willow’s hands tightly. “You made the right choice, Will. I promise you, everything will be okay. I will be with you every step of the way. I will protect you like my own sister."
“You are now part of the project,” Parker said softly. “The procedure will start tomorrow.”
Willow stood up. Her legs felt weak. She felt happy but also scared. She looked at the contract one last time. She did not know who was waiting for her. She did not know the truth hidden behind her best friend’s smile.
After signing the papers, they walked out of the hospital. The air feels different now. Everything felt real. Willow touched her stomach gently, even though there was nothing there yet. She could not believe what she had just done.
“Come on, let’s go!” Parker said happily, pulling Willow’s arm. “I’ll bring you to your new home.”
They got inside Parker’s expensive car. The ride was quiet, but Willow’s mind was full of noise. She was nervous, scared, but also a little bit excited.
After a while, the car stopped in front of a nice house. It was not as big as their old mansion, but it was clean, beautiful, and very safe. It looked warm and comfortable.
“W-Wow…” Willow whispered, her eyes wide. “Is this the place?”
“Yep!” Parker grinned, opening the door for her. “I told you, simple but complete with everything you need. You can stay here peacefully. No one will disturb you here.”
They went inside. Everything was already ready. The rooms were clean, the furniture was new, and the kitchen was full of food. It was way better than their old small apartment.
“Here is your room,” Parker said, opening the door. “You will stay here while you are carrying the baby. I will be in the next room, so if you need anything, just shout, okay?”
Willow sat down on the soft bed. She felt tired but relieved. “Thank you, Parker. Really… thank you so much. I don’t know what I would do without you.”
“Tsk, friends are for that right?” Parker smiled, but then her face became serious. She sat next to Willow and held her hand.
“Listen to me, Will. Starting tomorrow, your life will change. The doctors will take good care of you. You just need to rest, eat healthily, and also don't forget to study.”
Parker took a deep breath. “And please… take care of yourself. This is not just for the money. This is… really important. For everyone.”
Willow nodded. “I know. I promise I will be careful.”
But deep inside, fear was creeping into her heart.
Tomorrow is the start, she thought. Tomorrow, they will put the baby inside me.
She looked at her hands. She was just a normal girl. How could she carry the heir of such a powerful family? What if something went wrong?
“Don’t worry too much!” Parker stood up and clapped her hands to break the silence. “For now, rest well! Tomorrow is a big day. Good night, Willow!”
“Good night, Parker.”
When Parker left and closed the door, Willow was alone. The room was quiet. She pulled the blanket close to her chest.
She closed her eyes, but she could not sleep. She kept thinking about the man behind the contract. The mysterious father.
Who are you? She wondered. Why did you choose me?
She did not know that just a few kilometers away, in a huge dark mansion, a man was sitting on his chair, looking at her profile and picture with intense eyes.
He did not know her name yet. But very soon… she would be the one to carry his child. The heir of their clan. She was just a means to an end. Or so he thought…
