Nadine comes to the dining room shortly after Arlo leaves. "Heard you're going to meet the parents tonight," she says with a knowing look. "Yeah," I respond, trying to keep the fear out of my voice. "Arlo said you'd help me pick out something to wear?" She nods. "Let's find you something appropriate. You want to look respectful but also show that you belong." I follow Nadine to a closet filled with clothes, many of which seem far too extravagant for me. She pulls out a few dresses, holding them up against me. "This one," she finally decides, handing me a simple yet elegant dress. "It’s perfect." I change into the blue dress, feeling the soft fabric against my skin. It’s a spaghetti-strap dress with a little bit of shine to it. It’s been so long since I wore anything nice. Nadine helps
