Chapter 14

My heart raced against my mind, unsure whether to believe him or if this was just another stunt he usually pulls. “Then how is she carrying your pup?” I asked again, his eyes filled with rage. Instead of answering me, his hands carefully moved to my top right hand. I didn't understand what it meant, but a smile from him notified me that it was a good thing. “I'm not a cheat, Azren. I might be cursed, but I'm not doomed to sleep around,” he spoke. “So the pup magically appeared?” I asked, getting irritated by his presence. “We'll have to find out when she puts to bed. But for now, she stays until I figure out what she really wants,” he spoke, and I lost it. “What she wants? Kade, what she wants? What about what I want?” I asked, unable to hold back the tears coming from my eyes. “Look at me. I'm here because of you—doing all this to help the both of us. You don't even give a damn about me!” I cried out. But as usual, he sat there like he's unbothered or doesn't feel anything, and this, for some reason, outraged me. “I know you want to live. That's enough,” he finally opened up, and I lost it. “How about you rush to her and leave me to deal with my issues, just like I'm used to?” I said, my mouth brushing against my teeth. “You need to calm down. You'll need the energy at the battleground,” he said as he left the room. I had many questions, but I'm not asking or speaking to him. I got up from the bed and lifted the heavy curtain, revealing the sun. The beautiful view of Damian dancing with the sword caught my eye. Although sad, I made my way to the field where he was training. The sword was sharper than any blade. Damian himself was one hell of a fine man. Though covered up, his well-built body couldn't be hidden. His appearance was the second best after Kade. Maybe that's the reason he's the better of the pack. “What do I owe the pleasure of my Luna seeing me practice?” he asked, acknowledging my presence. “No, don't stop. Continue,” I spoke, so he continued as I watched him. “Maybe you should pick up a sword. You need serious training,” he spoke. My eyes moved to look at the swords aligned at the stables. Each type of blade was available, from the dullest to the sharpest, but the one with the crescent shape caught my eye. I took it out to caress it, but it cut me in the process. “Ouch!” I sighed. Damian noticed my pain as he approached. He saw the blood and cut a piece of his clothes, then tied it on my hand. “You should be more careful, Luna,” he said, keeping his eyes away from my gaze. “Why don't you train me?” I asked him, but he smiled. I couldn't tell whether it was awkwardness or he was just shy. “Why don't you tell the Alpha? He's the most skilled one yet seen—and the swiftest. If anyone can make you ready, it's him,” he spoke, stepping back to his training circle. “He's too busy with the love of his life,” I said, getting hold of the blade again. “Well, it didn't seem like that yesterday,” he spoke, catching my attention. “What did you mean?” I asked. “The Alpha didn't leave your side. Even when you went for the test, he snuck in watching you. And when you were done, he carried you back to the house and didn't leave until you woke up,” he spoke, slapping some sense into my brain. “Are you sure about what you're saying?” I asked. “Very sure, my Luna. I was there with him,” he spoke, going back to training. I wanted to ask more questions, but more men joined, and I had to leave, going back to the house. My reflection in the mirror revealed a blue, ocean-like mark on my top right hand. “You won this time,” Tasha said, standing behind me, but I didn't flinch as I watched her through the mirror. She's the one going to kill my pup. “Why don't you back up?” she asked. “I'll make a deal with you—return my normal life and my previous life. If you do that, I'll back up,” I spoke, but she didn't stop taunting me by rubbing her belly. “I'm carrying the Alpha’s pup, so I'm supposed to be Luna,” she spoke. “You're getting more greedy,” I spoke—not to Tasha, but to the little witch. “There's only one way to get rid of me, and that's by sacrifice, Azren. It's either you or him,” she spoke, finally revealing the little plot she has. “Where's his wolf?” I asked. “Focus, Azren. You're saving a man who doesn't care about you. He wouldn't even lift a finger if the situations were switched,” she spoke, but I knew that was a lie. “I'll find it, Tasha,” I spoke, revealing the blade a little too much. “Good luck,” she spoke, reaching out. Her hands had a red bangle that I only remembered seeing Linda with. I tried to concentrate, but images of Kade's wolf trapped played in my head. I could tell he was chained somewhere, but I couldn't fully see the place. Maybe that's the reason for Kade's calmness—because he felt it, or even walked with Damian because he needed protection. “Are you ready?” he spoke. I went to nod but found out he was talking to the fully armored Damian. He went outside, and I followed swiftly behind him. He was like something I've never seen before—fast, just like the way he defended my village. “Come,” he instructed me. “I know you made your first kill, but you have to practice on how to make more,” he whispered, giving me a sword I couldn't carry, let alone wield. He noticed this and came and stood at my back. Each body part connected with the other, his hands on my hands, his head slightly above mine, but I could feel his every breath. He lifted my hands, and my vision flashed again, revealing his wolf trapped in the same temple ruins. I could see it very well. “Focus, Azren. This is about life and death. Your opponent won't take it easy on you,” he spoke, holding my hands, but the vision of his wolf calling for help got stronger. “Again!” he commanded. His men stood outside watching me—either for spectating or for protection—but my mind went into turmoil. Should I practice and protect myself to save my life, or free his wolf, which might cost my life?
