Chapter 46
With the software now ripped out of his control by the Software that Runs the Universe, Jeremy gave up on waiting for Virgil to wake up and began dragging him toward the Trans Am still parked in the middle of the living room.
Cassie showed up and helped him the last few feet of the way. They shoved him into the back seat and strapped him in.
Jeremy considered locking her out of the car and leaving her here, but she had the bad manners to apologize before he could figure out how to do so.
“Sorry for not helping. It’s self-preservation. I find that reading really bloody serial-killer thrillers is the only thing that makes getting in this car look like a rational thing to do.”
He had to stop and think about that for a moment as Virgil farted and mumbled in his sleep.
