Hazel was dumbfounded for a minute before she said.
“I-I can explain,” she stuttered, racking her brains for a reasonable excuse.
Before she could say anything else, one of the council members spoke.
“Enough of this interrogation,” He said.
“We all know that Hazel is a troublemaker, her curiosity to discover new things is always at its peak” He added.
Hazel flared up.
“Who was he to judge her?” She pondered. She didn't know what they want from her but she was determined to defend herself.
“I am not a troublemaker,” Hazel said having a determined expression on her face.
“I am trying to reveal the happenings of the castle,” She added.
The Council leader's eyes narrowed.
“The truth?” Curiosity could be found in his voice.
“What do you know about the truth, Hazel?” He added.
Hazel took a deep breath, racking her brains on what to say next, she knew her answers must be one which would be able to satisfy the council leader curiosity.
The Council leader smirked as his dark gaze rested on her
“Curiosity can land you into danger, don't you know?” He said
Hazel's eyes widened as she listened to the Council leader's words.
“Anyways, that wasn't our main focus, you're being summoned because, you were involved in two major incident which has been a source of concern to the council.” The Council leader said.
Hazel's heart skipped a bit as she was processing the information that she had heard.
The Council leader's expression turned grim.
“We have received reports that there is a creature lurking in the shadows,” He began
“A creature that has been causing trouble and spreading fear all over the castle,” He began.
A confused expression could be seen on Hazel's face, her mind was racing.
“A creature? what kind of creature?, How dis it relate to her?” She pondered.
“I don't understand,” Hazel said, trying to process the information.
“What makes you think that I am involved?” She asked.
The Council leader's eyes narrowed.
“We have reason to believe that you have encountered such creature,” He said.
“That you have engaged in several discussions with it,” He added.
Hazel's eyes widened in shock.
“Discussing with a creature, what were they talking about?” She pondered.
“That's not true,” Hazel said, her voice having a tinge of anger in them.
“I don't know what you are talking about,” She added.
A skeptical expression was seen on the Council leader's face.
“Don’t lie to us Hazel,” He said.
“We all know all about your little secret. And we are not going to tolerate it any longer,” He added.
Hazel shivered as a fearful expression was seen on her face, she realized that the situation was worse than she thought.
Different thoughts raced through her mind.
“What did they think that she had done? What were they going to do with her?” She pondered.
A defeating silence was seen in the execution grounds, Hazel stood there, racking her brains on what to say next, her mind racing with questions.
“What was going on in the castle? What did the incident had to do with her?” She pondered.
“Why are you doing this?” Hazel asked, her voice laced with sadness.
“What do you want from me?” She added.
A cold expression was seen on the Council leader's face.
“We want the truth, Hazel” He replied
“And we are going to get it, no matter what it takes,” He added.
Sweats began to pour out of her forehead, she was in trouble and she did not know how to get away from it.
As she stood there, pondering on what to do next, Hazel heard a voice in her head. It was a soft voice, and it seemed to be coming from everywhere and nowhere at the same time.
“Don't worry Hazel, I am here to help you,” The voice said.
“I am here to help you. Just trust me and everything would be okay,”
Hazel's eyes widened in surprise as she wondered who was the being that had spoken to her. Before she could ask any questions, the voice was gone, leaving her to face the council alone.
Hazel's thought wandered far, she looked at the council leader's mouth and realized that his lips was moving but no sound was springing forth.
“... Colluding with the human race” She heard this words, immediately she returned back to reality.
A confused expression was seen on Hazel's face.
“Colluding with the human race??” She repeated as her voice was trembling.
“That's absurd, I would never do such a thing,” She added.
The Council leader's expression was unyielding.
“We have evidence, Hazel” He said.
“Evidence that suggests your secret meetings with the humans, sharing information and plotted against us,” He added.
Hazel mind was racing.
“What evidence could they possibly have? She had done nothing wrong,” She pondered.
“That's not true,” Hazel exclaimed, having a determined expression on her face.
“I don't know what you are talking about, I have never met with humans in secret,” She added.
The Council leader's eyes narrowed.
“Don't lie to us Hazel,” He said.
“We know all about your secret meetings. And we know that you have been sharing our little secrets with humans,” He added.
An angry expression was seen on Hazel's face.
“How could they think of such a thing?” She pondered.
She had been a loyal member of the pack and she would not betray them.
“I am telling you, it is not true,” Hazel said, her voice was firm.
“I don't know what kind of evidence you think you have, but it's fake. I have done nothing wrong,” She added.
The Council leader's expression was unyielding.
“We will see about that,” He said.
“We will investigate further, if we find out that you are lying to us, there will be devastating consequences,” He added.
Hazel felt a chill run down her spine as she realized the gravity of the situation. She was in serious trouble and she did not know how to get out of it.
As she left the execution grounds, Hazel couldn't help but wondered what was going on.
“Who could be behind the false accusations? What did they want from her?” She pondered.
