Nightfall came, the moon shine in all it's glory. Avery released herself from Hazel.
“I will be right back, let me attend to my father,” She said.
Hazel nodded her head, wiping the tears on her face.
Avery left the room and the room plunged into perpetual silence.
Hazel sat on her bed staring blankly at the wall. She was still in shock of what had happened. She had been accused of making acquaintances with humans and was now confined to her room, awaiting banishment from the pack.
As she sat there, lost in thought, Hazel's mind wandered to the question that had been plaguing her since the council meeting.
“Who had given the council such deadly information,” She pondered.
Hazel's eyes narrowed as she thought about the endless possibilities.
The perpetrator of the act had to be someone that's close to her, someone who knew her well enough to make the council believe such ridiculous information.
As she pondered on the question, a faint knock was heard on the door, Hazel got up to answer it, expecting it to be one of the guards or even Avery.
But when she opened the door, she was shocked to discover that it was Elara, a sly smile was seen on her face.
“Elara,” Hazel said, suspicion could be seen in her voice.
“What are you doing here?” She asked.
Elara smiled grew wider.
“I just wanted to see how you are doing,” She replied.
“I am so sorry, Hazel,” She added.
Hazel's eyes narrowed. There was something in Elara's tone that didn't sound quite right.
“Sorry?” Hazel repeated.
“You're sorry? You are the one that had been spreading rumors about me, aren't you?” She added.
Elara smiled faltered for a moment, and Hazel saw a flash of guilt in her eyes.
“How did you….?” Elara begun, but Hazel cut her off.
“I don't know how you did it Elara,” Hazel said, her voice was cold.
“But I know why. You are jealous of me, You have always been jealous of me,” She added.
An angry expression was shown on Elara's face. For a moment, Hazel thought that she had seen a hint of hatred in her eyes.
“You will never understand Hazel,” Elara spat.
“You will never understand what it is like to be me,” She added.
Hazel was shocked and angry at the same time, she couldn't believe that Elara had betrayed her like this.
“You're not remorseful, are you?” Hazel said, her voice laced with sadness.
“You're not remorseful for what you have done to me,” She added.
Elara's expression turned cold and she shrugged.
"I did what I had to do," Elara said.
"And I will do it again, if I ever encounter such an opportunity," She added.
Hazel was disgusted and annoyed at the same time. She couldn't believe that Elara had betrayed her like this.
"Get out," Elara said, her voice was cold.
"Get out of my room and don't ever come back," She added.
Elara smiled, a sly triumphant smile.
"I'll leave," She said
"But you will never forget me Hazel, you will never forget what I have done to you" She added.
As Elara turned to leave, Hazel felt hurt and angry at the same time. She couldn't believe that Elara had betrayed her like this.
Hazel took a deep breath and strengthened herself for what lay ahead.
She was going to fight for her reputation and was going to make sure that Elara paid for what she had done.
With a newfound determination, Hazel began to plan her next move. She was going to get to the root of this, no matter what it took.
As she sat on the bed, thinking and strategizing, Hazel heard a faint noise coming from outside her room.
It sounded like someone was trying to sneak in.
Hazel's heart began to pound as she wondered who it could be.
"Was it Elara that had come to gloat some more? Or was it someone else, someone who might be able to help me?" She pondered.
Hazel's eyes narrowed as she tried to listen more closely.
"Who was it and what do they want?" Hazel plunged into deeper thinking.
As she waited, Hazel's mind was racing with endless possibilities. She was ready for whatever came next, and was determined to come out on top.
Suddenly, the door creaked open and a figure slipped inside. Hazel's mind trembled as she saw who it was.
"Avery?" Hazel asked.
The figure nodded.
Hazel released the breath that she never knew she was holding.
"You made me afraid, why do you enter like one who was coming to scavenge the area" Hazel said.
Avery chuckled as she shook her head.
Avery looked around nervously, making sure that they were alone, this act caused Hazel to look at her with a smirk on her face.
"I came to help you Hazel," Avery said.
"I don't believe the accusations leveled against you, I know that you are innocent" She added.
Gratitude was seen in Hazel's expression as a smile was seen on her face. Avery was the only one who believed her, the only one who was willing to stand by her.
"Thank you Avery," Hazel said, her voice trembled as a result of the joy bubbling inside of her.
"Just knowing that you are here for me, makes me feel a little bit better," She added.
Avery smile grew wider.
" Let's not discuss about this issue any further, let's go into a discussion filled with fun," Avery said.
Hazel raised her eyebrows as a confused expression was seen on her face.
"Which is?" Hazel asked.
"The mating ceremony," Avery replied.
"You've got to be kidding me," Hazel said.
" I'm not kidding, I was able to find out some wolves who would be participating in the ceremony, " Avery said.
Hazel curiosity was piqued as she looked at Avery with an intense stare.
"I heard that Ryder would be participating," Avery said.
"Rumors has it that he has been looking for a mate with a strong spirit and a fierce heart."
Hazel's eyes widened in surprised as she was processing the information, Remembering her situation, her heart sank.
She was been banished from the pack and she wouldn't be able to participate in the mating ceremony even if she wanted to.
Avery sighed as she placed her hand over Hazel's shoulders.
"We will figure something out," Hazel said, patting Hazel's shoulders calmly.
