Dusk was getting closer, Avery withdrew herself from Hazel's hands.
“I need to attend to a matter urgent, do not worry, I am always with you,” Avery said.
Hazel nodded, wiping the tears that threatened to fall from her eyes.
Avery left the room, Hazel sat on the bed staring blankly at the wall. As she sat there, Hazel thoughts began to wander, she thought about Damien and his reaction to the news.
As she thought about Damien, a faint knock was heard in her room. She got up to open the door thinking that it was one of the guards or even Avery.
To her surprise, it was Damien who was at the door, he looked at her with a cold calculating gaze, Hazel was surprised because anytime that Damien visit, he always have a loving look on his face.
“Damien,” She whispered, her voice trembling.
Damien's eyes had a hint of anger in them
“Hazel,” He began, his voice cold and menacing.
“I don't know what to say to you, I don't know how you can do something like this,” He added.
Hazel's eyes were filled with tears as she realized that Damien was extremely angry with her.
“Damien please,” Hazel said, her voice was in a whisper
“You have to listen to me, I didn't do anything wrong,” She added.
Damien's expression did not change, he did not believe her.
“Why is she claiming to be innocent,” He pondered.
He couldn't forgive her because he thought she was guilty.
“I don't want to hear it Hazel,” Damien said, his voice was cold.
“I don't want to hear your excuses or lies. You are guilty and you will pay for what you have done”. He added.
Hazel's face contorted into a sad one as she realized that Hazel did not believe her. She had never felt so alone, so betrayed.
“Damien please,”She said again, tears running down her cheeks as she gripped him tightly.
“You have to listen to me, I am telling the truth. I have never connived with humans. I would never do that.”
Damien shook his head
“I don't believe you, Hazel,” He said.
“And even if I did, it wouldn't matter. You have been accused, and you would be punished. That's the way it works”.
Hazel was angry hearing Damien words. She couldn't believe that he was being so unfair, so cruel.
“That's not fair, Damien,” Hazel said, anxiety could be seen in her voice.
“I am innocent, and I deserve a chance to prove it”. She added.
Damien laughed.
“Fair?” he repeated.
“You wanna talk about being fair, you are the one who was accused of betraying the pack, you are the one who is going to face the consequences” He concluded.
Hazel felt a chill run down her spine as she realized the gravity of Damien's anger. She shivered as she knew that her doom was fast approaching.
“I can't have my betrothed ruining the pack that I had build with my hands, the moon festival would be an avenue to come clean and end this relationship” Damien said.
Hazel looked at Damien as if he had grown two heads.
“You are kidding right?” She asked him, her voice trembling a bit.
Damien smirked.
“The earlier you take in the information that you are no longer the Alpha's betrothed, the better” Damien said as he left her with those words.
Tears ran down her cheeks as Hazel could not believe that the love that was been kept for centuries was shattered as a result of a misleading information.
The Moon Festival drew nigh, with every passing moment, Hazel grew anxious.
Although she was confined to her room, she was granted access to attend the moon festival as the moon festival was a sacred ceremoy and it was compulsory for every wolf to attend.
Damien's eyes blazed with anger as he stood in the center of the pack's gathering place. Hazel stood before him, her head bowed in shame.
“You have been accused of conniving with humans,” Damien declared, his voice sounding across the gathering place.
“And I, Damien as the Alpha of the pack, stripped you of every benefit that was attached to you as a result of being the Alpha betrothed and Luna of the pack”
“Also the punishment that was meted out on you to be carried out with immediate effect,” Damien said.
Damien brought out Avery and hugged her in front of the pack
“This would be your Luna, give her all the respect she needs,” He said.
Hazel was dumbfounded at the spot, she couldn't believe that the ones who were close to her would treat her this way.
She felt a sharp pain in her chest, enduring the pain, she kept a poker face on in order to avoid mockery from the pack.
The pack erupted into a chorus of growls and snarls, their face twisted with anger and disgust. Hazel felt ashamed and humiliated at the same time.
“How could you Damien,” Hazel said, her voice trembling.
“I thought you loved me, that you would stand by me, no matter what” She added.
Damien expression turned cold, his eyes blazed with anger.
“I do love you Hazel,” He said.
“But I loved the pack more. And if you are guilty of betraying us, then you deserved to be punished”. He added.
The Council leader looked at Hazel with a mixture of sadness and regret.
“Hazel, I am afraid that Alpha Damien decision is final,” he said.
“But you will leave the pack immediately”. He added.
Hazel was shocked and had a feeling of despair. She had never imagined that things would go this far. She had never imagined that she would be banished from the only home she has never known.
“But..but where will I go?” Hazel stammered, feeling a sense of panic rising up inside her.
The Council leader was sympathetic, but firm
“This is not our concern, Hazel” He said
“You have been banished from the pack, and you must leave our territory immediately” He added.
“I will do it,” Hazel said, her voice firm.
“I will leave but I will never forget this. And I will never forgive you for what you're doing to me,” She added.
The council leader's expression was unyielding.
“You should have thought of that before betraying the pack,”
Hazel was angry but she knew that she had to keep her cool, leaving the pack, she embraced the new life that stood in front of her.
