Chapter Four

1289 Words
ZUMI Mother and I arrive home pretty late because she had stopped at a mall in the province. As someone who claims to hate the idea of her baby girl getting married, she certainly did not hate the idea of shopping for the said wedding. My mind was not at ease the entire day. I wanted to get a pregnancy test but knew damn well I couldn’t get a hold of one with mother by my side. To be honest, I couldn’t get one at all with my looks. Everyone knew the pale girl with freckled face, hazel eyes and bright wavy red hair was the peace offering. I knew I wouldn’t be able to get hold of one back home because who didn’t know the Alpha’s daughter? The ride home was nauseating. Mother eventually got wind of my abrupt mood change which I dreaded the most. She questioned the living day out of me till we got to our pack house. Our pack house is a mansion located at the heart of the pack land, Crescent Moon Pack. Surrounded by beautiful ornamental plants, the pack house sits beautifully in the large compound. Within the four corners of the walls sits the Infirmary, staff quarters for the servants, two large swimming pools, a baseball court, a ballet studio Diane and I use for practice alongside the daughters of the higher ranking officials of the pack and a training hall which is only ever used by the males. I run out of the car the moment it comes to a halt and within a blink of an eye, I’m in from of Diane’s room door. Somehow, I knew I could count on her. We never hid things from each other growing up plus, she's the only one I told about that night. The moment her eyes fall on me, she drags me opens her door wide for me to come in. Once I’m inside, she drags me to her bathroom and hands me a pregnancy test to pee on. How she got the test, I have no idea. I don't even want to think of the reason why she has it. “Are you okay?” she asks. Now, we were waiting for the results. I am not ready to look at it. Part of me already knows what the outcome will be. I can feel it. Instincts probably. “Yes,” I lie. “I am”. Another obvious lie. My breathing is in disorder. My heart threatens to force it's way out of my body through my chest. “Do you want me to take a look at the results instead?” she asks. I nod. “Whoa… Zumi…” she gasps. By the time I opened my eyes, her hand is covering her mouth. I grab the test stick from her and there it is, staring back at me, ‘PREGNANT’ If my eyes could pop out of their sockets because of how wide they stare at the test, they will. I open my mouth to speak but I say a bunch of nothings. Instead, I find myself gasping for breath. Hypothetically speaking, what would talking change right? “Zumi, what are you going to do?” Before I register what is happening, my butt hits the floor. The cold tiles rubbing against my thighs. “I’ll inform Deane.” Diane announces, rushing out. I can't stop her even though I probably should. Nothing can be done at this point. If I need help, my brother has to be involved, one way or the other. He deserves to know how I got into this mess even though it’s already late. Deane flings the door open and rushes to my side, kneeling beside me. His face is masked with terror. He always knew how to mask his emotions but right now, his heart is broken. Not only did I break his trust, I have shattered his heart. All the years he spent protecting me, crashing down as he snatches the test strip from my grip. Angrily, he breaks it in half. Diane runs in just in time before his anger takes full control over him. From the looks of it, he ran and left her at his side of the mansion which he shared with our father. Her pants are loud and desperate for air as she drops by my side. “Tell me who did this!” Deane demands. My head spins and the headache is unbearable at this point. He grabs my shoulders tightly, peering into my soul with his hard gaze. “Do you realise what you’ve done, Zee? If word gets out, you’re dead.” He shouts but not loud enough for our mother to hear. If she did, word will truly get out. Diane opens her mouth to speak but he raises his hand and stops her. “I only want to hear it from the horse’s mouth. Speak up Zee.” I try to open my mouth to speak but I can’t. Deane’s hands tenses around my shoulder. He's getting really impatient. “I’ll ask you one last time, Zee. Who did this to you?” ‘It’s not his fault. It’s mine.” I manage a whisper. “What? I need a name.” “R… Riot.” His hands drop to his side instantly. ‘What did you just say?” “She said Riot! I know you heard her right.” Diane snaps. “Now go put your f*****g friend on a leash!” Diane never curses but right now, even she is angry and frustrated. This could cost her life as well as that of our parents. We could all be ripped off our status and the rogues would never accept us. Hell, they’ll kill us before we plead our innocence. “I told you to stay away from him!” Deane shouts. He's shaking. He's scared just as I am. “I tried to! But he came to me. I didn’t go to him.” I let out. I can't hide it anymore. Yes, I loved Riot but I didn't force myself on him. He made me believe the feeling was mutual. What a fool I was. Tears slip down my cheeks. Deane’s eyes search mine. “Huh?” “Yes,,” I take in a sharp breath and continue, “on the night of his engagegment party, he came to me when I was outside. He told me he loved me!” Tears stream down my face and my nose is blocked. I have to ooen my mouth to breathe properly. Diane holds my face and turns it to meet hers. She smiles. “I know what to do. Don’t worry.” she nods and get’s up to leave when I hold the hem of her gown. “No,” I shake my head. “Don’t tell Reese, please…” I beg. She smiles, “I won't tell him a thing but he’ll help still…” She frowns. “ He owes me.” With that, she leaves. Deane sighs and helps me to my feet. “Do not tell a soul about this.” He warns while I nod in agreement. “You and I will sort this out with your future husband.” “My what? I don’t understand. I…” “Roman will protect you. If he has agreed to this marriage, you are his priority. Pregnant or not.” “But…” “No buts!” He snaps. “The earlier we do this, the better for all of us. The only problem is getting in” he rubs his stubble as his body tenses in confusion. “Getting in? Where?”
