5: The Hybrid Princess

1206 Words
~ One Day Earlier ~ Eve I walk out of my room with my overnight bag to meet my father before leaving to go see Amelia. I go see her once a month since she decided to live at the coven when she turned 18. I mind link him so I can find him. Daddy, where are you? In the library, Bambi. On my way. I am approached by Erica, daughter of the Beta. She constantly reminds me of her hatred for me and my “kind.” “Oh no, the freak has appeared,” she snarks. “Don’t start with me, Erica. I’m going to see my sister and I’d like to leave happy.” “You and your sister ruined this pack. You should leave like she did.” “Beta Jerome should’ve taught you to respect your superiors. I am the next Alpha of this pack and I am a Princess.” “Go be a princess elsewhere then, your Highness.” That little bxtch. I can’t stand her. When you become Alpha, be sure to banish her ass, Phoebe scowls. And what reason would I have to banish her? For being an intolerable cxnt. I laugh internally because Phoebe is right. She’s so despicable but it’s not a good enough reason to banish her. “Get out of my sight, Erica. I don’t have time for you anyway. I need to leave,” I say. “Whatever,” she says as she forcibly bumps into me. I grab her by her curly brown hair and swing her back towards me. I grab her neck and ram her into the wall. I feel my fangs elongate. “Let me go you strong armed weirdo,” she yells. “I’ll show you a strong armed weirdo.” “No, don’t go flashing those blue eyes at me.” “Evelyn,” I hear Beta Jerome say, “let her go.” I still have a firm grip on her neck when I turn to face him. “Daddy, help me,” she cries. “She’s hurting me.” “How many times has she, myself and Alpha Ivan told you to not mess with her,” Jerome chastises her. “You know you can’t handle her so why do you keep doing it?” “She must like getting her ass kicked,” I smirk at her. I’ll gladly kick her ass. It’s so thrilling to do. She constantly challenges me even though she knows I’m faster and stronger than her. I release her and slightly shove her towards her father. I go downstairs to the library to meet my father. He shaved his head last week and he looks so weird now. I still haven’t got used to it. “Bambi, what took you so long,” he asks. “You linked me over ten minutes ago.” “Dumb Erica.” “You didn’t hurt her, did you? You know, if you choose to stay here and succeed me, she will be your Beta, right?” “I’d rather her not be. She’s an annoying little twat.” “Evelyn,” dad shouts at me. “Sorry, but she annoys me so bad. I don’t want her as my second in command.” “You know you don’t have to stay here with me. You are the eldest so technically, you are the heir to the throne. You channel as a vampire more so than you do as a wolf anyway. It’s okay if you leave me.” “I like my wolf nature. Phoebe is my closest friend. It’s just easier, quicker and less painful to shift into a vampire.” “Phoebe should be. She’s in your head at all times,” he laughs. “Seriously, this pack isn’t what it used to be. We lost a lot in that war with Diamond Peak. Honestly, this is a dying pack and you don’t have to stay here.” There’s no doubt this pack is small. We used to be six hundred strong. Now we have about one hundred fifty wolves. We haven’t recruited any new wolves in Goddess knows how long but I believe I can return this pack to its former glory. I know I have a right to the title of Foxfire’s Queen but I feel like I can do more here as a wolf. The question still remains of what direction I’ll go in. Do I become the Alpha here or crowned queen at Foxfire? I still have a few years before a decision has to be made but I really don’t know what I want to do. If I could, I’d do both. “Daddy, I love you and this pack. I also love being able to become a wolf. It’s why I decided to stay,” I say. “Bambi, you could be so much greater at the coven with your sister.” “I’m doing just fine here.” “You’re doing much better in a pack where the few wolves left constantly call you a freak? For all you know, your mate could be at the coven.” I’ve been shunned ever since dad first brought Amelia and I back to the pack house after our mother died. I never let it stop me from enjoying my life here. Amelia didn’t like it so much which is why she rejected her wolf nature and left. I doubt my mate is at the coven. I personally want a strong wolf mate… not a puny, pale blood sucker that can’t even go out in the sun without severe burns or dying. “I doubt it. I better get going. I’ll be back tomorrow.” “Alright. Give Bunny my love.” “I will.” “Oh, and please be careful. Glacier Run is still up to their mess. Jerome and I ran away some of their wolves from the garage last night.” “I’ll keep that in mind,” I say. “Love you old fart.” “Love you too, Bambi.” What happened between Foxfire and Glacier Run was over two decades ago. Why are they so obsessed with killing the descendants of my grandfather? It’s been too long to be so hellbent on revenge still. Foxfire is right at the Canadian border. It’ll take me at least four hours to get there. With such distance between the coven and pack house, it was pure coincidence that mama and daddy met. I get lost in a little daydream as I make my way to my car. I can’t wait to meet my mate. I imagine him tall and strong but sweet and loving. I wonder what pack he’ll belong to. If he’s not an Alpha, I hope he’s a high rank. I end my daydream as I walk into the garage. I get into my Mini Cooper and leave. It’s snowing so this trip will probably take longer than expected. At least I won’t have to worry about snow at the coven. I have to cross through Diamond Peak and Glacier Run territory to get to the coven. I’m prepared for anything but I’m hoping this trip will be smooth.
