JD’s POV
I could say it was a successful day for me. Now, I can keep an eye closer on Victoria Sanford plus I got her number. I can easily get connected with her without her questioning my motives. This is so much easier than I thought. I silently congratulated myself for a job well done. The closer I am to her, the faster I can dispose of her. I don’t want to come up as the bad guy but she left me with no choice. Had I met her in a different circumstances, then things would have been better between us. She’s actually nice and timid but the thing is I know who she is.
This morning, I saw how surprised she was upon seeing me again. I know she never expected me to appear at all. I also saw for a brief moment the look of admiration from her. I am familiar with those kind of looks from women. I am used to it. But with her, I don’t get it. We were in my car for a long ride going to her work and back but nothing happened. I thought she would interact with me like even start flirting. It was actually the opposite. She was very quiet and shy.
I couldn’t help but smile when I remember how she forced herself to look to her side during the whole time I was driving. That was very degrading. If my friends saw me, they would have a great time teasing me. I think I am losing my charm. She barely looked my way. I tried to strike a conversation with her but she would only answer me in brief words. That woman must have gotten a stiff neck by now for not even moving a muscle just to look my way. That made me smile.
She baffles me. She’s so different from what the investigator told me about her on how she acts and speaks around with people. I don’t think she’s shy... I guess she’s playing hard to get.
The only times she speaks more words was when mentioning about my dad and she always has this lovely smile on her face. I got so pissed off when I saw her reaction every time I mentioned dad. I was glad I got to rein myself.
I think she’s acting like a naive. I saw her how she partied with her friends and how she acted around with my dad. She acts so differently... far from the woman who was in my car today.
That woman was shy, naive, but still beautiful. Shit... I have just started with my plan but I keep thinking about her looks. I need to condition myself that she is dad’s gf. I am here with a mission to get rid of her as soon as possible. That gave me a sigh of relief.
With that in mind, I am completely focus and in control. I have to check on Jared now if he is in our meeting place. He is the only one I am meeting anyway. I was laughing to myself when I told him our meeting venue. He is complaining why it is so far. I didn’t tell him yet that I had no choice since I already started with my plan.
“Jared, bro...how are you? Are you close?”
“Tsk...You need to give me half an hour. There’s a heavy traffic here. You better give me a good explanation why you have to set this meeting far away from our places. Man, you just sent us to the opposite direction. You know how much I hate this traffic.” He just couldn’t stop complaining. This time, I was laughing sarcastically at him. He is not the only one who got issue with the heavy traffic. It’s basically everyone else in this country.
“Well, you will learn everything during our meeting.”
“You made me more curious. What’s going on with you?”
“Don’t be impatient. Let’s just say that a lil minx just fell into my trap.” And I remember her again… beautiful, naive yet dangerous.
“Just be sure you that you don’t fall in your own trap.” Jared said with a hint of a warning.
After more than half an hour, Jared finally arrived.
“Do you know that Nicole won’t even want me to come here?” Jared’s first statement when we saw each other.
“She said that you’re getting crazy since we never really meet here for a business meeting or even our boys’ night out.” Jared was laughing this time.
“Well, I have a very important reason. Remember Victoria? She’s living here. I drove her back home from work.” I told him frankly. There’s no reason to hide as he knows what I’ve been doing these past few months.
“Seriously! Are we talking about the same Victoria whom you got investigated? And now, we are having a meeting here for business? You must be kidding me.” He complained again.
“We can always postpone our meeting, right? Why do I have to be here?” Jared just doesn’t stop complaining and whining like a kid.
“I am sorry, bro. I had no other choice. I need to be closer to my enemy. Besides, I cleared all my schedule from work. I also needed this time off. So you see, I may not see you for any business related stuff in the next few days or so.” I explained to him hoping he stops complaining.
“Starting this day, I am on indefinitely leave from my company. And I want you to handle it for me while I am gone.”
“Can you fill me in on what’s going on with you nowadays?” Jared asked.
Instead of talking about work. Our topic was all about Victoria. I told Jared everything except ofcourse what I really think of Victoria.
After I told him everything, I saw the amused look from his face.
“Word of advice JD, be careful what you get yourself into. Did it even cross your head that what if Victoria may not be who you think she is? What if you made a grave mistake? What if your dad just helped her and they never really had any relationship? You know your dad with all his philanthropic work.” Jared said meaningfully.
“If I were you, I would give time to know her better before you make your own judgment. You may be creating your own problem.”
“We’ll see. I saw her with my own eyes with dad. And what I saw convinced me that she’s that kind of woman. Yeah, she looks so innocent but looks can be deceiving. I just want her to be out of dad’s life.” Trying to convince Jared that I am right.
“Good luck bro. I just hope you won’t regret what you are doing right now.”
“There’s no one who will get hurt here, except that woman.” Jared just shook his head. He knows his friend too well. When he is into something, he really is determined to accomplish it.
After talking about Victoria, we talked about Jared’s intention to invest in my other business interest. The meeting was actually brief. It was all formalities. Aside from my own accounting firm, I also have some hotel resorts. I don’t rely on my father’s wealth. Whatever I have right now, I worked hard to achieve them. I knew dad didn’t like it at first that I am building my own businesses. He said I am his sole heir. I understand his intention but I also want to prove to myself that I can make it big as well without my dad’s wealth. After a few years, I was dubbed as one of the youngest billionaire in the country. All the hard work paid off and it feels great.
There is only one thing left so I can fully say I am happy and contented. That is to face the past with my dad and confront Victoria with the truth.
Speaking of which, I took out my phone and began composing a message. It is still early to go to bed anyway.
“Hi Ria, I hope you arrived home safely. Save this number. JD” It was a brief and simple message.
My phone beeped after a few minutes expecting it was from Ria. It was only from Jared.
I waited for her to reply back but maybe she went to sleep early. Anyway, it doesn’t matter. First thing tomorrow, it will be my face she is going to see. I am starting to enjoy this game with Ria.
She is trying hard to conceal her reaction towards me. Not to be conceited, but I am pretty sure I got her attention. The only thing that still haunts me is she’s really way different from what I expected of her. The Victoria I got investigated is a gold digger bitch... smart and cunning. But the Victoria I’ve seen today is so innocent, shy, simple yet still stunningly beautiful. She is full of contradictions. Was Jared right after all? That she may not be who I thought she is? But I saw her with my own eyes with dad. Too much PDA… I really don’t know what to think. I am so confused about her. There is one way to find out... Plan B.
I went to sleep with a new plan in mind. I hope this is going to work.
